Introduction:

HarvestPlus leads a global effort to improve nutrition and public health by developing and disseminating staple food crops that are rich in vitamins and minerals. HarvestPlus works with public and private sector partners in more than 40 countries. HarvestPlus is part of the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) and is a program of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). CGIAR is a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future. HarvestPlus in India is disseminating high iron pearl millet and high zinc wheat for a significant impact on improved nutritional status.

Reason for the hire:

HarvestPlus seeks a dynamic individual to build strategies and drive the communications (internal and external) about the brand and their work across various media and communication platforms.

This is a replacement position as the current incumbent has transitioned out of the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Support the HarvestPlus country office in updating and implementing the HarvestPlus communications strategy India.

- Develop a communications portfolio in close coordination with the Head of Strategic Communications and country team.

- Oversee and manage the development of communications products (stories, reports, website, participation at major events), with an emphasis on supporting resource mobilization efforts.

- Lead media outreach efforts, engaging and coordinating with the press for site visits; develop and cultivate a network of media outlets to enhance the visibility of HarvestPlus, and manage press relations; ensure active social media presence.

- Develop targeted communication strategies for major biofortified crops in collaboration with HarvestPlus and its Partners.

- Monitor the reach and impact of HarvestPlus communications efforts.

- Design and deploy capacity development programs to improve the communications skills of HarvestPlus and its partners.

- Support the country team and prepare teams for major events, including developing communications materials (posters, banners, and printed materials), designing training activities and development of talking points.

- Lead or support the preparation of newsletters, press releases, infographics, videos and other communications materials.

- Serve as a regional conduit to coordinate asset collection from other HarvestPlus country programs in Asia, particularly Bangladesh and Pakistan (photography, video, activities and written collaterals) to keep track of items of regional interest and informing communications at headquarters.

- Support the global HarvestPlus communications team with the preparation of India and global products (annual report, website, India-relevant materials such as brochures and information notes)

Must Haves:

- Bachelor's degree plus five years of work experience in communications or a related field (journalism, public relations, marketing, communications), or Master's degree plus three years of work experience in communications or a related field.

- Ability to copy write, develop and edit content for website, digital media, direct mail, reports, publications, presentations, campaigns, donor engagement tools, and external communications for agriculture and nutrition sector audience, donors, and corporate partners.

- Demonstrated technical skills such as experience with social media management tools; experience with media tracking and database tools; experience with adobe creative suite tools.

- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure, with minimal supervision.

- Demonstrated organization, and problem-solving skills.

- Willingness to travel, including to field sites in which conditions might be rudimentary and physically demanding.

- Excellent oral and written English communication, persuasion, presentation, and interpersonal skills; fluency in Hindi is necessary and other local languages are preferred.
