Silicon Valley Bank - Associate Director - Business Planning & Risk (14-20 yrs)

- The position looks at a blend of skills to coordinate key business initiatives and support implementation of the overall risk strategy by providing risk insight and managing operational risk control for the business unit.

- Primary focus is to establish a program management approach to various projects and initiatives and partner with the second line of defense (ERM, ORM, Compliance, etc.) to ensure that all practices and services are compliant with applicable laws and regulations. This person is also responsible for building the culture of a well-managed organization in line with guidance from ERM and ORM.

- With the ability to understand, partner and orchestrate the many different perspectives essential to successful delivery/execution, this position will serve as a focal point through which business/project initiatives will be monitored and governed to provide a regular, efficient and effective Management Dashboard of key milestones, to establish and operate practices that encourage active risk management and escalation/resolution/remediation of potential issues; and develop and apply meaningful metrics to promote Process Excellence; Continuous Process Improvement; and Measurements of Success.

Essential Functions :

- Managing strategic and operational initiatives and cross functional projects

- Work with key stakeholders to develop requirements for the initiatives that are planned

- Define success measures and metrics for the projects and track to completion

- Identify and monitor timely emerging risks and escalate through appropriate channels.

- Single point of contact for second line and third line functions

- Assist in the facilitation of risk assessments for SVB GO India as directed by the second line of defense

- Partner with GO managers to ensure all process and procedure documents are complete and accurate

- Proactively identify areas of improvement in project management processes and where necessary, tailor them to local requirements

- Manage project schedule related to audits impacting India, reporting findings/recommendations, corrective actions, and changes. When necessary, liaise between the business unit and auditors or examiners

- Participate in governance meetings and update the leadership team on progress, risks and issues

- Provide business, project and initiative reports to stakeholders

- Provide clear project reports, status reports and planning documentation on a periodic basis

- Prepare Executive reporting and presentations with clear metrics and cross functional updates

- Manage multiple vendors and internal stakeholder groups where required as per projects and risk initiatives scope

Knowledge :

The role requires a good understanding of project management and operations management. Experience in project management methodologies and Risk management is a plus. Prior experience in managing cross-functional initiatives and projects in a global role.

- With a proven track record in projects of all shapes, sizes and methodologies the ideal candidate will have first-hand experience in performing multiple roles associated with the - end to end- business initiative/project life cycle

- Direct experience of working in a first or second line risk role within a financial institution

- Operations background preferred

- Working knowledge of banking regulations within risk management and bank-operations related disciplines

- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, negotiating, influencing, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.


- The candidate will bring a positive energy, spirit of collaboration and partnership to the function building effective relationships across the various stakeholders/disciplines involved in any given initiative to work towards the common business goals.

- Being part of a global capability center aligned to India operations would be a plus

- Needs to be a self-starter who can coordinate with multiple internal and external groups to get projects moving

- Able to understand, refine and present comprehensive information to large cross-functional teams and leadership

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including senior management level presentation skills and ability to communicate with leadership across business teams.


- Ability to make presentations on a company-wide basis. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to communicate at all levels of an organization; distilling complex data/situations into discrete understandable components; navigating the audience to appropriate focus on the matter at hand.

- Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in reviewing project risk, identify control requirements related to business/project initiatives, systems and business analysis. Demonstrated ability to motivate staff/project team, inspire teamwork and develop staff. Execution focused - able to operate at a - hands on- level without compromising effective delegation. Brings - out of the box- ideas to problem situations.

- Ability to deal with ambiguity and work with cross-functional teams - Be a go between for staff, chief executives and department leaders

Qualifications : External :

- 15+ years of experience primarily from a project management/operations/risk background

- MBA from a reputed institute with a Commerce or Engineering background would be preferred

Preferred Education and Experience :

- Experience in managing large project or risk programs

Certifications :


- Project Management/ Risk certification
