JOB DESCRIPTION An excellent opportunity for a legal counsel who wants to work on IT projects, IT contracting and further explore new areas of the law and continue to grow their knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Digitalisation, translating that into practical, actionable best practice. Youll help to put this developing team on the map across Shell and in doing so, grow your own reputation. Whats the role? - Youll be helping Shell to explore the future of energy and contributing to building a community of IT-savvy lawyers who have the potential to become a very valuable part of our Legal domain. - Your role will be to advise, draft and negotiate with internal and external parties globally, providing Shell IT, Shells Contracting and Procurement organisation and Shells Digital Strategy and Digital Centre of Expertise with a broad-range of IT-related agreements. Youll sharpen your already-impressive knowledge of new and emerging digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, the internet of things and robotics; its vital you can advise on new business models and commercial opportunities in these areas, with a keen eye for legal risks, pitfalls and mitigation strategies. - A key part of the role is to cultivate and sustain relationships both within legal and across the world of Shell; by promoting awareness of what we do, youll help the team to become widely recognised for their expertise. - The Digital Centre of Expertise is located in Houston, Texas, London, UK, Amsterdam, NL; and Bangalore, India. This is a role with a global remit. You will work with the Digital Centre of Expertise in the Shell Technology Centre in Bangalore, and supporting Shells IT Hub in Bangalore, in addition to working globally in an international team based in Malaysia, Europe, USA. The role may require occasional international travel. REQUIREMENTS : What we need from you Were keen to hear from men and women who can deliver commercially focused solutions on projects with both complex legal and technical elements. Life moves fast at Shell, so you need to be able to balance conflicting priorities and be comfortable pursuing commercially focused risk-based solutions against an ever-evolving legal and regulatory framework. On top of that, your CV includes as many as possible of the following: - Post-qualification experience in IT law and general commercial law; - Firm grasp of all areas of commercial and IT legal issues under different legal systems (common law and civil law); - Experience working with businesses to deliver timely, cost-effective, commercially-focused legal services; - Experience of working in an Agile environment. Its your personal skills that will make all the difference. Positive and proactive, youre a natural collaborator someone who can cultivate strong professional networks and operate effectively in a corporate, team-focused environment. Youre accomplished at bringing out the best in others too, whether thats supporting and coaching others or influencing and negotiating with key stakeholders and decision-makers. Of course, youll need to convince us you have a keen interest in new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, the Internet of Things and that youre conversant with the associated legal implications. As well as being able to quickly grasp technical detail, working directly with experts in their field, its vital that you have the all-round communication skills to translate that information into language thats readily understood by non-technical clients and colleagues.
