Senior Communications Strategist - Clean Energy Lead - NGO (4-8 yrs)

An established international not-for-profit organization is looking for a Senior Communications Strategist based in India to lead the development and implementation of a global communications strategy on the transition to clean energy.

It is envisaged that the role would lead in development of strategies aimed to shift the energy transition narrative globally, with an emphasis on countering myths and placing media stories on the clean energy transition in key geographies including India where the position will be based. To facilitate this, the role will lead the organization's strategic delivery of its clean energy communication work, including engagement with partners working in the clean energy space and the role will be closely linked to an international team of peers in key markets around the world.

The position will have a global remit, however being based in India will allow the Senior Communications Strategist to focus particularly on amplifying Indian renewable energy stories globally, while also promoting important global developments towards local media and audiences, as relevant to the implementation of the communications strategy. The role will work closely with our team in India.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly driven communications professional with the ambition to make a difference and play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition internationally.

Duties and responsibilities - 

In the above mentioned context, the Clean Energy Lead will be responsible for:

- Tracking political, public and media debates around the transition to clean energy, as well as developing and implementing communications strategies to influence and shift these debates

- Developing and maintaining a diverse network of partners and contacts across sectors (academia, corporate, non-profit, politics, including spokespeople)

- Acting as a core member of an international network of peers, and other international fora, guiding the network on matters relating to clean energy at the international level and taking on board recommendations from geographies

- Developing structures and approaches that can react quickly to emerging opportunities and changes in the external context

- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key correspondents and editors in mainstream and specialist media for pro-active promotion of stories, outreach on emerging issues and reactive media management

- Acting as a source of thematic intelligence and information for the international network, carry out or commission research as required

- Providing communication services and advice to partners

- Providing media relations services and advice to partners

- Working with a global network to deliver relevant communications content and collateral

- Contributing to monitoring, evaluation and reporting (including some financial and administrative tasks)

Key competencies and characteristics

- At least five years experience in strategic communications

- Detailed understanding of the media landscape and values, and experience with strategic story placement, messaging, etc.

- Strong experience of development and deployment of major communications initiatives

- Far-reaching and active networks (global and Indian national media; climate/energy community globally)

- Strong diplomatic skills and interpersonal relations, ability to quickly build trust with partners and colleagues

- Gravitas sufficient to work directly with high profile individuals and partners from diverse backgrounds at all levels

- Fluent in written and spoken English

- High levels of self-motivation, used to working at high pace in remote settings, as part of international teams and across time-zones

- Strong time and priority management, high level of independence and can-do mentality, good team-player with a passion for excellence

- Some project management and team management experience desirable

Location- : India, flexible with some national and international travel required

This is a full time position with a consultant contract for one year at competitive fee levels, with a possible extension after one year. All applications will be treated confidentially
