Reports to: LEAD ADVISORY AIR QUALITY and DOTTED LINE REPORTING TO OFFICE OF CHIEF SCIENTIST

Location: HEAD OFFICE, DELHI

- EDF's Global Clean Air initiative is advancing innovation in air pollution monitoring and control worldwide to tackle the growing crisis of urban air quality. As enormous momentum grows within cities to tackle the global air pollution crisis, EDF is driving targeted clean air action by shining a light on air quality at a scale and scope never seen before. With on-the-ground projects in three continents-US, Mexico, UK and China-EDF and their partners deploy new technologies to pinpoint pollution hotspots, clear the air for people to breathe and inspire action worldwide.

Reason for the hire:

- Environmental Defense Fund is looking to hire an Air Quality Scientist who will be able to provide scientific and technical guidance to all air quality projects managed by EDF. This role will entail studying the various aspects of air quality and helping in improvement of the same to result in healthy communities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Technical know-how. Develop air quality monitoring methodology

- Support or carry out projects which involves air quality monitoring

- In-depth knowledge or experience of sampling and testing of air quality

- Lead or support meetings with project partners and other stakeholders

Note: The roles and responsibilities outlined above are not meant to be an exhaustive list of tasks. The need for flexibility is required and the job holder is expected to carry out any other related duties that are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

Must Haves :

- Ph.D. with 7 years of work experience OR Master's degree with 10 years relevant experience as equivalent

- A degree in atmospheric chemistry, physics, or chemistry, is required

- Experience in air quality data handling

- Experience of working on air pollution models such as WRF, and AERMOD

- Field experience of air quality monitoring

- using and calibrating (setting up) sampling equipment and ensuring that correct measurements are taken

- In-depth understanding of air quality source apportionment. This experience will be an added advantage.

- Experience in working with Pollution Control Boards, NEERI, CSIR, CPCB

- Demonstrated commitment, interest, and competency with equity and justice and DEIJ

- Basic understanding of:

- ArcGIS or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map pollution

- Developing clean air action plans

Preferable:

- Low-cost sensor-based samplers. Experience will be an added advantage.
