Position Title : Station Head

Basic Purpose :
The Station Head is at the helm of a station and is responsible for operations, sales, technical HR and administration in a station.
Duties & Responsibilities :
The duties and responsibilities of Station Head will include, but are not limited to, the following :
Technical :
- Ensure that the station uptime of 99.99999% is maintained.
- Ensure the technical team carries out preventive maintenance as per schedule and makes optimum use of equipment at the studio and transmitter site.
- Inspect the studio and transmitter site at least once a month and support the technical team to ensure the necessary coverage and sound quality in station.
- Ensure compliance of IT and other technical policies in the station.
- Review working of technical team and Associates training needs and any other needs like cross training etc.
Programming :
- Carry out a need-gap analysis on a monthly basis and communicate the findings are communicated to sales, nationally and locally.
- Ensure the programming plan is in tune with the need-gap analysis and is ready at least six weeks in advance.
- Prepare an execution plan in conjunction with Regional Marketing and activation resources.
Marketing :
- Drive the stations marketing in adherence to the marketing philosophy and strategy.
- Localize the brand strategy in adherence with the brand identity and accordingly plan and execute the station's communication campaign.
- Drive Station alliances and partnerships in accordance with the alliance strategy i.e. tie-ups and activating alliances.
- Support all planning and execution activities related to brand-activation, sponsorships, NTR etc.
- Utilize the allocated budget efficiently for all marketing activities including launch, merchandise, sustenance etc
Sales :
- Carry out at least five sales calls a week especially with the top clients in the city.
- Conduct competition mapping surveys with a view to benchmark listenership, clients, FPC, HR metrics etc.
- Establish and nurture good relations with celebrities, top 20 clients, public officials, vendors, community agencies and other stakeholders in the city.
Human Resources :
- Establish a culture in the station which reflects the Company's core values and constantly reinforce it to ensure all associates live the values.
- Manage the talent management process for the station with the help of Regional HR resources in accordance with approved budget and Company guidelines.
- Ensure all associates are on-boarded as per company standards.
- Ensure all associates are issued with job description and allotted business goals.
- Identify training needs and oversee the Station's training in accordance with Company standards to enable high productivity and career development.
- Ensure recognition & celebration events are organized as per Company guidelines to motivate, reward and retain associates
- Carry out periodic rap sessions with associates to proactively ensure high associate satisfaction.
- Drive community activities with a view to inculcate civic values and social responsibility amongst associates.
- Establish career plans for all associates of the station and foster alignment of individual and company goals.
- Ensure all RJs and sales associates have been issued with incentive letters.
Finance :
- Analyze P&L statements and cost variance with respect to budget with a view to cut wastage and improve profitability and ROI.
- Ensure the station has adequate petty cash and the same is being used for sundry expenses only.
- Ensure a statement of outstanding liabilities is maintained with respect to creditors with details.
- Ensure a statement of ageing of debtors with justification, wherever applicable is maintained in the following format :
- O/s for more than 30 days
- O/s for more than 60 days
- O/s for more than 90 days
- Monitor and ensure the following advances are settled with proper documentation :
- Travel Advance
- Salary Advance
- Advance against Reimbursement if any
- Advances to Vendors
- Other Advances with details
- Ensure Daily Revenue Reports for Corporate and Retail clients from Wide Orbit along with analysis of target and commitment, based on ads scheduled are prepared and disseminated in time.
- Ensure Daily Collection Report for Corporate and Retail Clients from Wide Orbit and with updated PDCs are prepared and disseminated in time.
- Despatch Music Broadcast Report for Music Royalty payable from Power Gold and NexGen by the 30th of every month.
Legal :
- Ensure the Station is in compliance with the following statutes:
- Shop & Establishment Act
- Contract Labour Act
- Ensure the Station is compliant with all Municipal rules & regulations related to transmission site, pollution etc
General :
- Ensure weekly reports are submitted by all departments every Monday as per laid down format.
- Ensure the studios, offices and equipment are well maintained, hygienic and secure and the Station at large projects a professional image to any stakeholder.
- Maintain a schedule of meetings which include the following :
- Station Leadership Team meeting on all Wednesdays (fortnightly reviews to be done on how well need-gaps are being addressed)
- Marketing meeting
- Sales meeting
- Programming meeting with PH and EP
- Station meeting once a quarter
Job Specifications :
- A post- graduate preferably an MBA with at least two years of experience as a business head. Media experience would be preferred.
- Age around 30 years with not less than eight years of experience.
- Must be fluent in the local language and conversant with local customs and ideosyncracies. Should ideally have stayed in the city for the last five years.
- Basic computer skills
- Good people focus and an ability to work under pressure.
