About The Client The Client is an early stage strategic investment fund aimed at building India's next big consumer brands by providing capital as well as hands-on involvement in branding, distribution and organization building to stellar entrepreneurs with strong business models built around consumption. The fund is a unique investment venture in that capital employed will form only a small part of the offering to potential investees, the larger element being active involvement by seasoned professionals in the areas of organization building, brand building, business strategy, product-to-market, sales and finance to help professionalize the organization and achieve scale and sustained growth. The focus is on early-stage consumer-focused businesses which don- t have easy access to active equity capital and high-quality blue-chip talent, with a firm belief that these will drive the next wave of growth and create unicorns outside the e-commerce space. The Role We are looking for a Principal who would be comfortable leading a few key investments of the fund at a time, and managing the entire lifecycle of these investments. The Principal will work almost like a co-founder in the portfolio companies, with very hands-on operational and strategic involvement. The role would include: - Sourcing and evaluation of new investment opportunities in our sectors of interest - Championing of identified deals through the investment committee - Coordination of due diligence and closure of deal transaction (end-to-end) - High-touch support and involvement with the investee companies, proactively work with management and board of assigned companies to achieve scale, organization build-out and KPIs - Managing of exit from assigned companies at the appropriate time - Research and build-out of knowledge base and fund view on sectors of interest - Defining and implementing systems and processes to improve the scalability and the value-add of the fund - Contribute actively towards overall fund level thinking and strategy - Active participation in the start-up community, develop a robust ecosystem of peer VCs, CEOs, board candidates, bankers, etc. The Person - Overall work experience of 7 - 10 years - Venture Capital / Private Equity experience for 5 - 6 years OR a founder at a VC- funded startup - Or leading a category or vertical in a consumer business/start-up with experience of building teams and managing the business end-to-end for 5-6 years - Entrepreneurial mindset with high ownership and problem-solving skills - Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment to plan and manage a variety of projects - Commercial insight and understanding - Ability to thrive in ambiguity and demonstrate creativity and intellectual flexibility in an uncertain and rapidly changing environment - Strong analytical and communication skills - Strong networks in the start-up and corporate communities - MBA from a top-tier management school
