PRINCIPAL SENIOR SCHOOL

Set of responsibilities at this post include anything and everything from the particular section of the school such as overall organization, systems, reporting, academic delivery, sports and co-curricular, discipline, pastoral care, budgeting, marketing etc.

As an indicative list the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

As a member of the Senior Management Team, Principal :

- Is directly responsible and accountable to the School Director and the School Board;

- Is key to implementation and realization of the school vision and ethos;

- Has to lead by example and provide leadership, inspiration, and motivation to the school community;

- Is expected to participate in Executive Committee meetings when desired and to make presentations to the Board of Governors;

Academic and Pastoral :

- Practicing best teaching pedagogies in line with the school ethos which includes project based learning, theory of multiple intelligences, IT enabled learning, inter departmental projects etc;

- Organize the program of the school by allocating duties to teachers, classifying students and scheduling classes;

- Monitor curriculum implementation and course coverage in collaboration with the Heads of Department;

- Monitor the quality of teaching and student learning and achievement including the analysis of performance data;

- Ensure that assessment, recording, and reporting takes place in accordance with school policy. Effective implementation and use of the school ERP;

- Plan and run the school annual examinations in accordance with the school guidelines for both the internal and external examinations in collaboration with the IB Coordinator and the IGCSE Coordinator;

- Deal with IBO, CIE, CIS and other affiliating bodies etc as an when required;

- Ensure that our academic honesty policy is upheld and that the students receive a strong value based education;

- Hold regular year group meetings with faculty and inter departmental meetings on student progress in order to ensure timely intervention for students at risk;

- Organize the supervision of students when classes are not scheduled;

- Decide with the School Director and faculty on the admission of new students and the promotion and retention of existing students;

- Monitor the attendance of students in class/activities/sports/evening prep and at school time and make corrective recommendations to the School Director about those students whose attendance is considered regular;

- Monitor the evening prep periodically

- Ensure a disciplined and appropriate working environment in accordance with the school's guidelines and ethos;

- Liaise with the boarding staff regarding the welfare, discipline and academic performance of the students;

- Ensure the student's discipline, appearance, and conduct as a reflection of the school ethos.

Staff Management :

- Assist the School Director with the appraisal of relevant staff;

- Encourage teacher in service training and facilitate training where necessary;

- Enable staff to develop expertise in their respective roles through the identification of needs and encourage continuing professional development;

- Assist in the hiring and deployment of staff to make most effective use of their skills, expertise, and experience;

- Report to the School Director on all irregular teacher attendance;

- Develop a strong team of HODs;

Others :

- Ensure the proper and effective communication of important events, functions, visits etc., thus keeping the complete Pathways Fraternity well informed about the happenings in the particular school;

- Develop systems to enhance the smooth running of the section of the school in your case in collaboration with the School Director and other SMT members;

- Organize staff meetings and other meetings as required;

- Make recommendations to the school authorities regarding expenditure, facilities, equipment and supplies for the effective operation of the section;

- Assist the School Director in compiling the School's calendar of events;

- Budgetary controls

- Play an active part is marketing of the School;

- Ensure the proper upkeep and maintenance of the particular school building in coordination with the Maintenance Department.

Teaching :

- Follow the syllabi and schemes of work in accordance with the school's curriculum policies;

- Plan lessons according to the system followed by the school and subject area and deliver the lessons so planned to the students;

- Submit all schemes of work, lesson plans and any other material to the relevant Head of Department, Subject Coordinator or Principal according to the systems laid down by the school;

- Regularly assess and mark the students' work following the guidelines of the school's assessment policy;

- Manage her classroom with regard to developing an interesting, stimulating and appropriate working environment for the students and set and maintain standards of student behavior that enhance the learning that takes place;

- Mount and display students work and other appropriate material on the classroom and atrium display boards;

- Set and mark examinations and other formal assessments in consultation with Head of Department, subject Coordinators etc as appropriate;

- Maintain effective records of student attendance, work covered and of student progress regularly;

- Provide detailed semester reports on all students in her classes at the end of each semester;

- Prepare and use resources to supplement text books and other formal materials including downloading relevant material from the internet and maintaining a record of useful website references;

- Organize subject based guest speakers to the campus and off campus visits to relevant places of interest or events;

- Liaise with other members of staff to establish cross curricular links and work practices;

- Attend department meetings and participate in periodic curriculum and syllabus review;

- Maintain familiarity with developments in her subject area and in pedagogy through research, reading, and workshops.
