Precision Agriculture for Development, Inc. (PAD) is a global technology enterprise using rich data and smart algorithms to help smallholder farmers make better production decisions. We are advised by top academics at Harvard and Brown Universities and backed by global funders. Background : PAD is adapting precision agriculture for smallholder farmers in the developing world. We are building an intelligent platform that provides individualized production recommendations based on theory and data. Our vision is better livelihoods for the poor, drawn from a more productive, environmentally-friendly landscape. In a rigorous randomized controlled trial in India, the alpha version of our voice-based service increased yields by 8.6-28%, with a social benefit to cost ratio of 10/1 (Cole and Fernando 2016). We have scaled up our pilot, growing from 200 to 53,000 users over the past 16 months in Gujarat. Based on the success in Gujarat, and a pilot in Odisha, PAD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Odisha and reputed international funders to bring our digital agricultural advisory solution to at least a million farmers by the end of year 2020. PAD will integrate and use some of the most cutting-edge technologies in agricultural domain while collaborating with top international and national research organizations. PAD's senior leadership team includes professors and global experts in technology and development with considerable combined experience in sub-Saharan Africa and India as well as deep expertise in data sciences and monitoring and evaluation. PAD's India team consists of alumni from Harvard University, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIT-Kanpur and Delhi College of Engineering with experience in management, research, and building start-ups. Roles & Responsibilities : - Clean, analyze, monitor usage data collected from a variety of platforms and come up with testable hypothesis for service improvement; responsible for communicating findings and patterns from data to allied stakeholders - Analyze existing third-party datasets that can supplement quality of information provided; explore additional datasets that can be used to improve quality and level of customization of agronomic advice - Developing models to predict user-specific information based on which information can be customized; exploring potential to recommend content based on user interactions with the system as well - Exploring innovative ways of collecting and tracking farmer engagement with PAD's service including automated profiling and training techniques - Collaborating with management team to standardize data management protocols and enable automation of data management systems where required - Communicating findings and providing regular updates to both all-India & global management Desired Qualifications : - Degree in Econometrics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or other related quantitative disciplines - 1-3 years of work experience in a highly analytical environment required; ability to use data to identify trends, make suggestions for improvements - Proficiency in tools like STATA, R or Python is required; some familiarity with A/B testing, machine learning would be a plus - Previous experience translating data into actionable insights, particularly in the development sector, a plus. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an ability to multi-task across various project asks is required - Previous experience in the development sector is a plus; some experience with fieldwork also preferred Location : Bhubaneswar Compensation : We offer highly competitive compensation based on skills & experience Start Date : Immediate
