Business Analyst:

Technical :

- SQL - joins window functions, nested queries, etc.

- Python - packages like pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc. OR

- R - base, dplyr, tidyr, ggplot, etc.

Data processing competency :

- Able to translate requirements into code logic

- Able to write/optimise code to fetch data scalably

- Automation experience, thought process and intent to automate

- Internal review, shows organic intent to double-check code/numbers via spot sanity checks and more thorough reviews

- Shows intent to research and learn new technical skills without any external push Competencies, analytical and behavioural


- Good Critical/analytical thinking

- A structured approach to problem-solving

- Able to understand business objectives, thinks business first

- Is able to translate business problem statements into analytical frameworks, deeply understands the problem before beginning to solve it

- Is able to prioritise among several parts in a problem

- Either sorting them in the order of impact Or be it identifying the must-haves and separating them from the good-to-have pieces

- Thinks like a project owner, willing to take the extra step to try and connect analysis the outcome to business actionable and eventual business impact. Good at pattern identification shows intent to find patterns in historical data or parallel data sets instead of jumping into assumptions straight away.

- But also, in case of lack of data availability, is able to put together some good guesstimates or triangulate assumptions by coordinating with other subject matter experts within the organization.

- Should be able to think of and propose multiple solutions to a problem statement based on urgency. One simple way to think about this - should have a 2-hour the solution, a 2-day solution and a 2-week solution for the same problem.

- Has an eye for detail, the intent to dig deeper and get to the root of the problems instead of superficially solving the incoming requests.

- Composed and ownership driven individual, who can work independently without much hand-holding.

- Should be able to communicate and coordinate with stakeholders and explain / translate complex analyses in simpler, easier to consume format to ensure utility and adoption.

- Need not be a polished product in all the above-mentioned aspects but at least ticks a few boxes and shows promise/intent on others for us to be able to groom the candidate going forward.

Key Skills to look for:

- 1 - 3 years of relevant experience

- SQL(Basic and Advanced)

- Scripting(R and Python)

- Good problem-solving skills

- Ability to match with the speed of a start-up
