The Trade Finance Specialist supports the organizations trade activities by structuring and managing financial solutions for import and export transactions. They work closely with clients, banks, and internal teams to provide expertise in trade finance products, such as letters of credit, guarantees, and trade loans. The role involves assessing risks, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, and optimizing cash flow for trade operations.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Finance Operations:

- Structure and execute trade finance solutions, including letters of credit (LCs), documentary collections, bank guarantees, and standby letters of credit.

- Process and review trade finance documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with terms.

- Facilitate financing for trade transactions, such as pre-shipment and post-shipment financing.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation:

- Evaluate creditworthiness of clients, suppliers, and counterparties involved in trade deals.

- Identify and mitigate risks related to currency fluctuations, political instability, or non-payment.

- Recommend appropriate trade finance instruments to minimize financial exposure.

Client & Stakeholder Collaboration:

- Act as a point of contact for clients, providing advice on trade finance products and solutions.

- Liaise with banks, financial institutions, and trade partners to negotiate terms and secure financing.

- Work with internal teams (e.g., sales, logistics, legal) to ensure seamless trade execution.

Compliance & Regulatory Adherence:

- Ensure all trade finance transactions comply with international regulations.

- Stay updated on trade sanctions, export controls, and local/international banking regulations.

- Prepare and submit required documentation for regulatory reporting.

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

- Monitor and manage cash flow related to trade transactions.

- Prepare reports on trade finance activities, including exposure, performance, and profitability.

- Analyze trade finance portfolios to identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiency.

Process Optimization:

- Streamline trade finance processes to improve turnaround times and reduce errors.

- Leverage trade finance software or platforms to enhance operational efficiency.

- Identify opportunities to digitize or automate trade finance workflows.

Market & Product Knowledge:


- Stay informed about global trade trends, financing options, and emerging technologies in trade finance.

- Advise clients and internal teams on innovative trade finance solutions, such as supply chain financing or forfaiting.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field. A Masters degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Documentary Credit Specialist - CDCS) is a plus.

Experience: 37 years of experience in trade finance, banking, or international trade operations. Prior experience in a financial institution or corporate trade finance department is preferred.

Skills:

- Strong understanding of trade finance instruments (LCs, guarantees, bills of exchange, etc.).

- Knowledge of international trade regulations and practices.

- Analytical skills for credit and risk assessment.

- Proficiency in trade finance systems or banking software (e.g., SWIFT, Finastra, or similar).

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for client and stakeholder interactions.

- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
