The Finance Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the organizations financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. They play a critical role in strategic decision-making, ensuring financial stability, and providing accurate insights to senior management and stakeholders. The Finance Controller ensures that financial processes align with regulatory standards and organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and present accurate financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) in accordance with GAAP/IFRS or relevant accounting standards.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable insights to leadership.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop, monitor, and manage annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
- Create financial forecasts to guide long-term planning and resource allocation.
- Track budget performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Accounting Oversight:
- Supervise the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard company assets.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and audits.
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and address findings.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including fraud and operational inefficiencies.
Strategic Financial Planning:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop financial strategies that align with business objectives.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, or other financial transactions with due diligence and integration planning.
- Advise on capital structure, investments, and cost optimization initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining oversight of critical financial processes.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems (e.g., ERP software).
- Streamline financial processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the finance department and other business units, ensuring clear communication of financial performance.
- Present financial reports to the CFO, CEO, board of directors, or investors as required.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. A Masters degree (MBA) or professional certification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is often preferred.
Experience: 710+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 35 years in a leadership role.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for interacting with stakeholders.
