About the job
1. Position Overview
The Deputy Construction Manager (DCM) Ash Handling System will support the Construction Manager in the execution, coordination, and monitoring of all construction activities related to the Ash Handling Package of the 2800 MW NTPC Gadarwara project. The role requires strong technical understanding of AHP equipment, field execution experience, contractor management skills, and the ability to ensure safe, timely, and quality-driven project delivery.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Project Execution & Site Coordination
- Assist the Construction Manager in planning, monitoring, and executing all site construction activities of the Ash Handling System (AHP).
Ensure installation, alignment, and commissioning readiness of AHP systems including:
- Fly ash conveying system
- Bottom ash & economiser ash handling system
- Ash slurry disposal system
- Air compressors, fluidizing systems
- Bunkers, silos, pipelines, valves & electrical/PLC integration
- Coordinate daily with civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams for smooth interface management.
B. Contractor / Vendor Management
- Supervise contractors, subcontractors, and labour teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety protocols.
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings and task briefings.
- Review contractor work fronts, manpower deployment, and work progress; escalate deviations.
C. Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Assist in preparing weekly and monthly progress reports (MIS).
- Track BOQs, drawings, material deliveries, and highlight shortages impacting timelines.
- Ensure adherence to project schedule and support recovery plans in case of slippages.
D. Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Ensure all installations conform to approved GFC drawings, QAP, and technical specifications.
- Conduct inspections, prepare checklists, and ensure compliance with ITPs.
- Assist QA/QC in material inspection, fit-up, welding, hydro-testing, and system clearance for commissioning.
E. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety guidelines aligned with NTPCs HSE standards.
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and ensure implementation of corrective actions.
F. Interface & Coordination
- Coordinate with NTPC site engineers, consultants (EPMC), OEM vendors, engineering teams, and internal departments.
- Participate in technical meetings, RFI reviews, clearance requests, and joint inspections.
G. Commissioning Support
Assist in pre-commissioning activities:
- Equipment trial runs
- Flushing, cleaning, leak testing
- System energization & function checks
Support punch list clearance and handover documentation.
3. Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or equivalent field.
- 10- 12 years of construction/site experience in Ash Handling Systems for thermal power plants.
- Hands-on experience with contractors, piping, equipment installation, and troubleshooting in AHP.
- Strong understanding of NTPC quality, safety, and documentation procedures.

- Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.
- Excellent understanding of AHP layout, equipment, and construction methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (GA, P&ID, Isometrics).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project/Primavera (added advantage).
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure.
5. Reporting Structure
- Reports To: Construction Manager Ash Handling System / Project Manager
- Coordinates With: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Safety, QA/QC, Planning, Contractor Teams, and Client Representatives (NTPC).
6. Work Environment
- Site-based role; requires extended time at project locations.
- Field-intensive responsibilities involving inspection, supervision, and coordination.
- Must be willing to work in shifts, weekends, and high-pressure project conditions.
