Role and Background Information:

- The Engineering Head's (SMB) role is to manage, architect and scale the payment gateway and associated services of PayU's SMB tech platform.

- The SMB / PayUmoney tech platform processes transactions of ~Rs 1,000 cr per month growing at ~40% annually

- Manage the large SMB portfolio (~350,000 merchants overall; ~40,000 monthly active merchants) by using technology/APIs and reducing manual interventions in all process and flows

- To assure successful execution of the SMB team's strategy by integrating and enabling company processes with appropriate technologies and planning for risk, security and scaling for growth.

- This individual will be responsible for all technology initiatives within the SMB domain including new initiatives such as flow based lending, Longtail Omnichannel solutions, Automated Onboarding and merchant issue resolutions as well as managing all technology resources of the SMB team and ensuring that teams scale from an individual development and teamwork perspective.

- Monitoring the market for new developments and ensuring that PayU stays ahead of the technology curve

- Acting as the Principal architect of the platform and building for the future

Key Deliverables:

- Working with Business and Product Teams to deliver engineering/technology products and services required for PayU's SMB customers (merchants)

- Constantly monitoring the performance of engineering teams and working with Product Leaders to ensure that Product is working at peak efficiency

- Constant increase in GMV/Revenue/GM for merchants by ensuring maximum transactions route through PayU's SMB platform with improving success rates (+2-3% over industry currently) and minimal downtimes (99.99%)

- Ensuring that Business requirements and needs are delivered in the appropriate sprint cycle/timeline. Managing tech resources accordingly and highlighting/improving other process/team constraints

What you- d need to bring to the table:

- Engineering degree from reputed institute; MBA from a tier 1 institute is optional (If not then experience in managing large teams needs to be well proven)

- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in a senior Engineering leadership role managing multiple teams, projects and across technologies

- Prior experience in Fintech, Payments and Consumer Internet is desired

- Prior coding experience especially in Java is a must.

- Experience with non-blocking async reactive microservices is required; Previous experience in transitioning monolithic architecture to a microservices driven architecture is required

- Understanding and prior experience with Salesforce is a plus

Skill sets:

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work with clients with great efficiency and attention to detail

- Excellent relationship management skills must be metrics driven.

- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills and the ability to express thoughts logically and succinctly.

- Open minded, Team builder, Good communicator and ability to lead and inspire teams

- Ability to work with cross functional teams and good inter personal skills

- Willingness to travel
