OLA - Assistant Director - Legal (12-16 yrs)

Key Roles/Responsibilities:

Legal Strategy and Advisory:

- Collaborate with CEO and senior leadership of Ola Financial Services (OFS) to develop and lead the implementation of legal strategy for OFS and promote and protect OFS legal interests from Indian law perspective

- Provide time-sensitive support on a wide array of legal inquiries in connection with all aspects of OFS business and operations. Ensure day-to-day legal needs of all departments are adequately met

Risk Identification:

- Identify and consult on legal risks in connection with any external partnerships, development of new products, regulatory, cyber security, intellectual property requirements and any other matters as needed

Deal Negotiation:

- Serve as lead counsel on strategic deals, resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries

Agreements and Contracts:

- Draft, review, negotiate and advise internal stakeholders and negotiate with external counterparts on a variety of commercial agreements, including third party agreements, operations agreements, services agreements, partnerships, marketing agreements, etc.

External Counsel Management:

- Liaise with specialist external counsel in relation to original new products, expansion into new market verticals, areas relating to compliance, privacy, or security and any other matters as needed

Litigation Management & Notices:

- Strategize and manage any ongoing litigation pertaining to OFS

- End to end management and coordination of legal notices received or to be sent by OFS

Compliance Support:

- Work with and advise compliance team on all ongoing compliance review processes, including necessary filings, policies and procedures. Ensure compliance of all statutory and legal requirements including filing

- Monitor changes to regulatory requirements and advise compliance on proactively handle regulatory developments

Policies and Procedures:

- Review and drive compliance of legally required policies (e.g. Code of Ethics, Anti-corruption)

- Manage fraud reporting and whistleblower policies and procedures

Team Management:

- Lead, set up and scale OFS legal team. Manage and monitor day to day operations of legal team resources

- Develop and implement internal processes for efficient and streamlined operations around developing and maintaining agreement forms, contracts and other legal documentation and processes

Data Protection:

- Broad understanding and appreciation of data protection regulations including GDPR. Advisory to Data Security teams as needed on data related legal risks

Group level legal coordination:

- Coordinate with group level legal team for ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd. regarding inter-company agreements, group level policies and procedures, legal risks, etc.

Experience & Skills Required :

- Excellent academic and law firm credentials and preferably holding a current practicing certificate

- 12+ years of experience as an in-house counsel or as senior associate / partner in private practice

- Experience working in or advising Financial Services or new age Fintech firms is highly preferred

- Breadth of legal expertise - Understanding of wide variety of laws applicable to financial services firms

- Experience in dealing with and resolving litigation

- Sound legal and business judgment, even in ambiguous situations

- Strong customer orientation and ability to partner with business and form good working relationships

- High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness and result orientation

- Ability to work independently, lead team and contribute to cross-functional teams as needed

- Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines

- Thrives on working in a fast-paced, high pressure, entrepreneurial environment
