It will provide independent, valued and timely assurance to FO Supervisors and Senior Management over the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls.

Risk Or Controls Testing is the planned, systematic, documented programme of independent checking to evaluate and evidence the extent to which internal controls are operating effectively; risk is being effectively managed; compliance with laws and regulations, the Firm's Policies, Standards and procedures have been established.

The Controls Testing team will undertake, from time to time, investigations when incidents and events arise. It will also undertake Issue validation for Business Unit Verticals and Horizontals where relevant

Overall purpose of role :

- The role holder is responsible for leading the effort to building and establish a BI CCO Front Office Controls Testing and Risk Assessment presence in Pune

Risk Assessments :

- As part of the Controls Maturity and Risk Profile Assessment process and reporting, undertake quarterly review of indicators and trending of control performance to provide a current and forecast view of the control environment (i.e. against control maturity) and risk profile rating by Principal Risk, Risk Category /Themes.

- Develop strong and productive working relationships with local line management and global BI CCO team to ensure continuous engagement on key deliverables are shared on a timely basis.

- Maintain a strong level of interaction and continuous communication with matrix management, including local and London based line management.

- Develop engagement with Core Governance Infrastructure (CGI), First Line of Defence Horizontal and Vertical teamsand the Second and Third Lines of Defence as and when needed to ensure they understand their risks and have controls and processes in place to manage those risks.

- Challenge theControls Maturity Assessment and Risk Profile Assessment performed by the Horizontal and Vertical Owners.

- Review the following MI components to inform the Controls Maturity Assessment and Risk Profile Assessment:

a. Issues and Actions, Controls Assurance/Testing Results, Risk Events, Dispensations, Waivers and Breaches, Lessons Learned and External Assurance Outcomes.

b. KI managed by the Horizontals and Verticals.

c. Tolerances, Thresholds and Control Assessment to provide a view of the Control Maturity at Risk Category/Theme level for the aggregate Controls at the Standard, Horizontal and Vertical level.

d. Qualitative factors such as changes in business strategy or organisation structure, changes in the external legal or regulatory environment and significant external events impacting the industry.

Controls Testing:

- As part of the extended EME Controls Testing team, undertake periodic product and thematic reviews across the Markets, Research, FiRM, Treasury and Banking businesses, challenging control design and control operating effectiveness.

- Develop strong and productive working relationships with local line management, EME team in London, and global FO Controls Testing team to ensure continuous engagement on key deliverables and project updates are shared on a timely basis.

- Maintain a strong level of interaction and continuous communication with matrix management, including local and London based line management.

- Develop engagement with Front Office management as and when needed to ensure they understand their risks and have controls and processes in place to manage those risks.

- Challenge the operational risk and control self assessments performed by Business Units.

- Review how issues identified are resolved and whether actions taken are suitable and sustainably implemented.

- Work with the Risk & Control teams in providing opinions and views on the status of controls in the various asset classes across the front office.

Key Accountabilities :

- Initiate and coordinatethe quarterly Controls Maturity and Risk Profile Assessment process and reportingwith supervision from EME BI CCO team.

- Where required leverage centrally produced MI, and/or produce, maintain and track Horizontal and Vertical specific MI and ensure the timely collection and integrity of the MI.

- Analyse the MI to provide a current and forecast view of the control environment (i.e. against control maturity) and risk profile rating by Principal Risk, Risk Category /Themes. This should also factor in the previous assessment.

- Ensure reporting identifies any changes and impact on the Risk Profile Rating and identifies any breaches of tolerances for escalation to the appropriate Forum/Controls Committee(s).

- Ensurethe quarterly Controls Maturity and Risk Profile Assessment process and reporting are undertaken in line with Control Framework and Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), in particular the Reporting Technical Standard.

- Build and develop relationships with key Vertical, Horizontal and first, second and third Lines of Defence stakeholders to drive Control Framework agenda.

- The individual would be responsible for managing and executing controls testing work locally performed and review work performed by local staff.

- Undertaking analysis of data following test scripts to assess the effectiveness of Front Office controls.

- Provide guidance to the local testing team interacting with testing teams in EME, APAC and Americas.

- Reporting results of work to the EMEA Controls testing team and document work as per Group Conrol Testing methodology.

- Strong communication abilities with well developed risk and control data analytical skills such that limited changes are required.

- Should be able to interpret and - join the dots- across the MI data points (i.e. qualitative and quantitative indicators) and be able to provide a view and an overall rating on the Controls Maturity and Risk Profile.

- As part of the data analysis an understanding of risk management concepts and controls should be applied.

- Should be able to present the analysiswith supporting narrative in a clear and concise manner.

- Should be able to recognise remote networking / stakeholder management opportunities and able to negotiate and influence effectively.

Decision-making and Problem Solving

- Analytical skills required when reviewingthe MI to inform the Controls Maturity Assessment and Risk Profile Assessment.

- Operating as a Controls consultant to the Horizontal and Vertical stakeholders, when agreeing the quarterly Controls Maturity Assessment and Risk Profile Assessment.

- Able to maintain objectivity in reporting and escalating any breaches.

Person Specification

- Have the ability to grasp risk management, controls and business concepts quickly and will require a proactiveand curious approach to data analysis, focusing on areas of value add/significance to Horizontal and Vertical.

- Strong analytical skills, ability to analyse data via Microsoft Excel and run data comparison queries.

- Be required to build rapport with colleagues to help establish best practice processes and techniques. The right candidate will contribute positively to the organizational culture of excellence and they will have the ability to take accountability and operate with their own initiative in a professional and positive manner.

- Define thought leadership on Controls and their application in driving a best in class control framework that is a competitive advantage in the - Go To- strategy.

- Awareness of modern governance, risk and control assessment techniques.

- Basic Experience in one or more of the following areas: Front Office, Internal Audit, Operational Risk Management, Risk, Controls or related disciplines in the financial services industry.

- Good organization, planning and execution abilities, whilst ensuring local line and London based management are kept up to speed on deliverables.

- Understanding of the key Market, Credit and Operational risks.

- The role may involve overseas travel as needed.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

- Undergraduate degree taught in English language.

- Strong experience of working in a Front Office / Audit /Risk and Control environment within Investment Bank.

- Strong understanding of vanilla products traded within Banking and Trading business.

- Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and analytical skills to perform data manipulation.

- Strong knowledge of relevant PC packages, e.g. Word & Power Point.

- Strong communication abilities with developed risk management, control and data analytics skills and presentational skills, includingorganization, planning, coordination and reporting abilities.

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

- Commercial awareness and knowledge of financial services.

- Desirable but not essential Risk Management experience.

- Understanding of the Operational risks facing the BI businesses.

AVP - (8-12yrs)
