US tax Specialist


Your team responsibilities:

- The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for preparing the quarterly and year-end SEC reporting for tax, preparing the US provision, and consolidating the global provision.


- A critical part of this role will be to partner with the Executive Director of Tax Technology to drive process improvement and data flow in all aspects of the provision and return processes.

Your key responsibilities:

- Assist with inter-period tax provision and allocation under the standards of ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes.

- Preparation and recording of monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 including analysis of effective tax rate, and current and deferred taxes

- Reconciliation and validation of income tax accounts (P&L) and balance sheet tax accounts, monthly

- Monitor global cash tax payments and maintain tax payment schedules

- Liaise with the relevant stakeholders internally and externally, primarily for non-US income tax accounting matters.

- Execute continuous improvement and efficiency with tax accounting processes.

- Ensure best practices are employed to efficiently gather, use, document, and maintain the supporting tax documentation in line with applicable law and regulations.

- Support internal control environment for documentation areas and processes, including SOX 404 activities and documentation.

- Obtain an end-to-end understanding of MSCI's income tax accounting and reporting process and dependencies, and drive improvement where necessary.

- Lead and present tax accounting positions in cross-functional monthly and quarterly touchpoint meetings.

- Work closely and collaboratively with the Controllership department to ensure alignment during the close process.

- Foster a collaborative, team-based work environment that provides supervision and development opportunities for professional tax staff.

- Maintain strong relationships with external auditor and advisors. Interface with outside tax consultants in the exchange of information on tax issues.

- Provide tax audit support

- Possesses a strong understanding of federal income tax for corporations, including the ability to identify issues and calculate book/tax differences

- Provide support for the U.S. consolidated return, state and local income and franchise tax returns

- Review proforma US tax returns

- Assist in the evaluation and implementation of tax planning opportunities

- Your skills and experience that will help you excel

- Experience preparing US Federal Income Tax of large corporations

- Experience with tax provision and data management software. Experience with Longview Provision Software preferred, but not required

- Experience in an international business environment and with US aspects of international tax

- Strong communication skills

- Strong knowledge of Excel

- Knowledge of SAP

- Has excellent research skills (using Bloomberg, BNA, and other tax research platforms.) and an understanding of federal and state tax authorities

- Working knowledge of global tax provision
