THE ROLE

You will be directly responsible for developing a highly efficient, world-class accounting process through your deep understanding of GAAP accounting principles and how to apply those principles to MPOWER's financial statements.. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Determining and implementing MPOWER's accounting policies and position on relevant transactions, preparing technical accounting memos, developing relevant accounting checklists to streamline accounting processes and helping identify other areas for process improvements.

- Reviewing non-recurring journal entries to determine the appropriate classification.

- Ensuring an accurate and timely month end close by providing leadership and support to the accounting close process.

- Assisting with cash flow management, monitoring and forecasting the company's cash position.

- Responding to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests from investors, board members, and partners.

- Acting as a subject matter expert, working with the business partners in the accounting and other functions (e.g., legal, corporate development, stock administration) to identify financial risks associated with new or contemplated transactions and resolving complex accounting issues

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting

- CPA designation or equivalent

- 8+ years of experience related to technical accounting, Big 4 public accounting experience preferred

- 3+ years of relevant accounting experience in the Financial Services industry (consumer credit, consumer loans, education financing, or online lending platforms)

- Experience reviewing complex transactions including revenue-generating contracts, leases, debt issuance, stock compensation, derivatives and hedging

- Strong understanding of US GAAP

- Self-directed with proven ability to research complex issues, work independently, and multi-task -several projects efficiently

- Analytical minded with an ability to understand overall business operations able to quickly pinpoint areas on which to focus

- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate an accounting position and interact persuasively at all levels of the organization, including with internal and external auditors

- A passion for financial inclusion and access to higher education is a must!

- In addition, you should be comfortable working in a start-up environment, meaning a small agile team, fast-evolving roles and responsibilities, variable workload and tight deadlines, a high degree of autonomy, and 80-20 everything.
