Trade monitoring forms a part of - Adequate systems and controls- requirement that regulators globally impose on financial institutions like Morgan Stanley. Compliance uses various automated monitoring tools to detect, and hence reduce, potential market abuse or trading-norm breach attempts by Morgan Stanley's traders or clients. These activities would include, amongst others, the following:

- Insider trading

- Front running of a material client order by a Morgan Stanley trader

- Creating artificial demand for or supply of financial instruments

- Entering orders to move the price of financial instruments

ICC is responsible for monitoring of both Principal and Client trades across various Equity and Fixed Income products.

Background on the Team

India Core Compliance - overview

- India Core Compliance (- ICC- ) is as an extended arm of various global Compliance teams. The team is primarily responsible for performing following functions:

- Institutional Sales and Trading Group (- ISG- ) Trade monitoring

- Control Group Restricted List Trade Monitoring

- Research Monitoring

- Employee Trading Compliance

- Anti Money Laundering Monitoring

- Wealth Management Monitoring

- Investment Management Monitoring

Offshore ISG Monitoring

- Monitoring forms a part of - Adequate systems and controls- requirement that regulators globally impose on financial institutions like Morgan Stanley. Compliance uses various automated monitoring tools to detect, and hence reduce, potential market abuse or trading-norm breach attempts by Morgan Stanley's traders or clients. These activities would include, amongst others, the following:

- Insider trading

- Front running of a material client order by a Morgan Stanley trader

- Creating artificial demand for or supply of financial instruments

- Entering orders to move the price of financial instruments

- Unreasonable internal amendments (Cancel / Correct) to trade bookings

- ICC is responsible for monitoring of both Proprietary and Client trades across various Equity and Fixed Income products for various countries globally.

Head of offshore ISG Monitoring - overview

- The incumbent will not only get involved in ISG Trade Monitoring activities but also get the opportunity to participate in the wider activities of ICC and is expected to make contributions outside of the specific scope of their role.

- The role reports into the Head of ICC. The position is located in Mumbai.

Primary Responsibilities

The Head of offshore ISG Trade Monitoring will have several areas of responsibility including, but not limited to, following:

- Participate in defining and documenting the operating processes for processing Monitoring models;

- Lead by example and guide junior members in the team;

- Help the senior manager in making the team and processes more efficient;

- Create Management Information Reports on a periodic basis;

- Monitor development in regulatory requirements and adjust surveillance models accordingly;

- Review and analyze trade surveillance reports and vendor surveillance system alerts, and sign off alert completion related to employee, client and firm trading activities;

- Conduct investigations on irregularities and abnormal activities and document findings; and

- Escalate unresolved issues or potential violations of the Morgan Stanley's policies or external rules and regulations to his/her Manager, Coverage Compliance and Senior Management of Business Units.

Interaction with IT

- Work with IT and / or vendors in developing new tools;

- Participate in Requirement drafting and User Acceptance Testing of new models/reports; and

- Assess adequacy and effectiveness of surveillance and enhance existing surveillance models.

7+ years of relevant working experience in the financial services industry in Compliance or internal audit or with a securities exchange or securities regulator;

- Excellent knowledge about equity markets;

- Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience in Trade Surveillance;

- At least 2 years of People Management;

- Pragmatic and analytical problem solving skills;

- Attention to detail;

- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; and

- Knowledge of trade booking and settlements for Asia Pacific markets is helpful.
