JOB TITLE - Data Engineer / Data Scientist

LOCATION - Bangalore, India

The Role / Responsibilities:

The Mid/Senior Data Engineer / Data Scientist is a core member of the Emerging Business Unit (EBU) team, reporting to the Senior Director, ML and AI, Emerging Business Unit. This is a newly formed, highly visible team that is key to Moody's Analytics- (MA) long-term growth strategy that will lead our efforts to better understand and adapt to an environment characterized by widespread, technology-driven change. The EBU is charged with supporting innovation within our existing LOBs, developing opportunities in the - whitespace-, enhancing our innovation process and understanding customers- technology preferences.

The Mid/Senior Data Engineer / Data Scientist will, under the guidance of the Senior Director ML and AI, and working with the local (Indian) and international AI-ML team, design, develop, implement and evaluate innovative Data Science and Data Engineering solutions to advance Machine Learning, AI, deep learning and NLP capabilities across multiple business lines at Moody's Analytics. The responsibilities will include:

- Develop data engineering solutions, pipelines, and tools to integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple internal and external sources, pre-process noisy data, store massive unstructured data to be ingested by ML-AI tools

- Make data accessible to other team members using data interoperability, and API-based solutions

- Provide clean, usable data to the AI-ML team by developing novel solutions and pipelines to problems associated with data integration and messy, unstructured and noisy data sets.

- Design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable and interoperable data management systems for archived and streaming data

- Develop processes and tools for data modelling, mining and production

- Quantify data pre-processing and noise removal solutions using metrics, and complex data models for unstructured and structured data. Specifically identify how improved data modelling, quality, and pre-processing can improve AI, ML model performance

- Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data

- Integrate new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures

Develop taxonomies, ontologies and data representation solutions using OWL, RDF and other semantic web tools as appropriate to allow easy search, query, and access to fragmented data repositories

- Evaluate custom solutions developed by AI-ML teams through POCs and quantitative metrics, and suggesting novel solutions to improve data quality, integration, and pre-processing

- Research, integrate, implement and evaluate emerging Data Science and Data Engineering pipelines for ML/AI/NLP / solutions on structured and unstructured data

- Explain and document complex data engineering pipelines, architecture and processes to team members and managers

Qualifications:

- Degree (BS / MS / PhD) with more than 5 years- experience. Education in a quantitative field such as CS, EE, Information sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or related is preferred.

- Minimum 3 years- experience in developing end-to-end data science, data engineering pipelines, solutions and/or products applied to AI, ML, NLP, text analytics, deep learning, data-driven statistical analysis & modelling solutions in one or more domains.

- Experience with developing data engineering and data science pipelines specifically for text analytics and NLP applications is desired.

- Expert in applications of data science, data engineering and data-driven architectures, pipelines, and tools including data preprocessing, data warehousing, big data architectures and frameworks, scalable analytics, and visualization.

- Experience with data modeling, data integration, and data representation (metadata, OWL, ontologies)

- Expert in relevant areas of the technology stack (data infrastructure, compute and data middleware, data warehousing, data interoperability, software, UI and visualization) as applied to data-driven engineering solutions.

- Experience with unstructured data and text preprocessing approaches (stemming, lemmatization, and others) and tools such as SpaCy, NLTK, Stanford NLP,

- Experience with Database architectures, SQL-based technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL and MySQL), NoSQL technologies (e.g. Cassandra and MongoDB), Data modeling tools, and Hadoop-based technologies (e.g. Map Reduce, Hive and Pig)

- Strong, proven programming skills in Python, C/C++, Java, PERL, Node.js, REST, SOA, MATLAB, Scala

- Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, virtualization and containers, and scalable processing is desirable.

- Experience beyond using open source tools as-is, and writing custom code on top of, or in addition to, existing open source frameworks.

- Proven capability in demonstrating successful advanced technology pipelines (either prototypes, POCs, and/or products) using Data Science, Data Engineering solutions applied to ML/AI/NLP/data science in one or more domains,

- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to work in a diverse team

- Experience in an applied advanced technology environment, working in an agile, innovation-lab culture to bring cutting-edge technologies to fruition, from initial concept to implementation

- Additional experience with GPU programming for scalable pre-processing and training of deep learning models is a plus

- Experience in the fields of financial engineering, Fintech, financial processes a plus.

- Experience with data engineering applied to image and video processing applications is a plus.
