Job purpose :

- Increase in energy trading in markets affecting power & utility companies has an impact on short and long-term contract prices, on price volatility, on the choices faced by market participants and on the regulatory landscape governing markets.

- With Indian Power Market moving from a regulated structure to a free and competitive market, and the evolution of spot market has begun to impact the way electricity generation is planned and operated and utilities manage their portfolio. Competition in the market is gradually breaking the silos of conventional market structures and ways of trade.

- This started to pave way for a new expertise which calls for application of advanced analytics to make informed decisions to operate in the market and optimization of portfolio.

- You should be a self-starter with high motivation and will be responsible for supporting as part of our core team of consultants on their assignments with cutting edge analytics and market modelling.

- The profile includes working with consultants in extending the current operational realm of market players, especially Discoms, in the power/energy sector so as to imbibe technology and improve efficiency through technology, analytics and innovation.

- You will serve as a core team member of market analysts and advisors with special focus on Portfolio Optimization and Market Modelling, supporting Discom(s).

- Responsible for developing the company's competence in energy trading and market analytics by incorporating international best practices, and partaking in the developments catering to market analytics, price forecasting, market design, simulation & analysis, which includes working with analytics team in development of models and algorithms for market development.

- You will advise Utilities and be an active player in R&D associated with ETRM so as to innovate and develop structured products for portfolio Optimization.

Required Skills :

- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Indian Power Sector, especially Regulatory & Trading, which including its commercial, technological and regulatory drivers of Power Market

- Deep understanding of Electricity Market Economics and Design

- Understanding of Policies and their qualitative and financial impact

- Operational and Commercial aspects in Scheduling & Dispatch

- Deep understanding of Electricity trading and associated Risks

- Analytical and project management skills including the ability to run strategy and deals related projects (including more than one project at a time), leading & coaching junior team members and liaising with/presenting to clients

- Strong proficiency with the Microsoft suite (including advanced Excel skills with embedded Pivot Tables & Macros; advanced PowerPoint usage)

- Statistical Analysis & Financial Modeling. Experience with VBA and Access is a plus. Understanding of statistical concepts and predictive modeling tools (e.g., Logistic regression techniques, big data platforms, SQL, etc), with ability to work with team comprise of data scientists will be a plus

Duties & Responsibilities :

The candidate is expected to have prior experience in and perform and deliver services in the following:

POLICY & REGULATION:

1. Energy Markets & Policy Design

- Energy sector restructuring and markets design

- Private sector participation processes to design and implementation

- PPAs and other commercial design, risk management and trading support

MARKET SIMULATION & BUSINESS STRATEGY :

1. System & Market Analysis, Modelling

- Market Modelling

- Operational planning

- Dispatch & techno-economic modelling

- Market Research & Analytics

- Analysis of electricity markets and transmission systems

2. Techno-commercial analysis of Utilities

- Value chain analysis of Generators and Discoms

- Identification of risks and opportunities in the value chain, so as to assess opportunities for maximizing revenues with minimal operational impact

- Streamline processes for power trading, associated with organizational and techno- commercial processes

- Technical regulation issues in electricity markets

3. Energy Trading and Risk Advisory

- Product structuring

- Risk assessment in the trading value chain

- Strategic advisory, for short term electricity auctions

- Identifying arbitrage opportunities in various markets

- Build models for enabling trading in multiple markets, for portfolio optimisation

- Portfolio management and reporting

Education & Experience :

- Post Graduate in Energy Economics/ Power Management/General Management from reputed institutes, with graduation in Engineering

- Certification like GARP Energy Risk Professional (ERP) or FRM

- Minimum 5 years of experience in the area, preferably in consulting or energy exchange operations

Working conditions / Location :

The base location will depend upon projects which typical will be for 1 to 3 yrs. However, the applicant should be open to travel within and outside country to manage Projects. He/ She should also be willing to relocate (if required) to other locations within country based on project requirements.

Reporting : Manager - ETRM reports to Senior Manager- ETRM and further to the Mercados Partners.
