Operations Workforce & Efficiency Manager


Mercer Operations and Technology, with over 8,000 employees across the globe, serves as a centralized group encompassing units such as Global Technology, Global Services Delivery, Mercer's Transformation and Change Centres of Excellence.

Purpose of Role:

- To ensure Operations and Technology can track and demonstrate the impact of their efficiency programmes and management actions

- Build and maintain a system of reports and key performance indicators to deliver this analysis

- Monitor hires and exits across the business to support and challenge the businesses to continue delivering efficient client service

What does good look like?

- Effective tracking of all hard efficiency savings through thorough monitoring of headcount movements against an agreed baseline

- Tracking will be categorised to demonstrate the impact of Automation and Lean Management practices.

- Efficiency savings - reductions in headcount that show we are doing the same with less

- Efficiency gains - clear financial performance indicators that capture where the teams are doing more with the same

- All efficiency reporting clearly ties with core P&L reports and operational performance metrics - discussions are about insights not about reconciliation between numbers

Key Responsibilities include : 

- Development of clear, repeatable dashboards to demonstrate headcount/FTE positions to senior audiences

- Act as a central clearing house for all new hire requests across our global Operations & Technology, and Digital business to ensure these are backed up by an adequate case for hiring

- Record and monitor additions, deletions and segregate out these for specific initiatives e.g. rightshoring / lean working / new business

- Maintain a database to ensure relevant exits and saves are assessed for specific programmes (RPA, Rightshoring, Lean, Capex investments)

- Develop a good understanding of the capacity demands and cyclicality within different operations, as well as the revenue associated with the businesses they support.

- Develop a strong understanding of the levers of efficiency and how they influence productive operational capacity

- Coach and train leaders in efficiency reporting to build this capability across our leadership team

- Development of presentations to demonstrate the impact of efficiency within Operations and Technology

- Ensuring tight communication and partnership between HR, Finance, and Operations to ensure consistency in data

- Co-ordination with Global Metrics teams to have access to capacity planning to highlight relevance of FTE demand

Partners / Stakeholders : 

- Works closely and partners with: Finance Partners, Global Metrics team, Automation Leader, P&L Leaders, Workforce Managers, works with Digital to automate dashboards where appropriate

- Stakeholders: COOs and Transformation Leadership

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities include :

- Experience in cost / headcount analysis

- Accountant / Senior Analyst with significant experience of working with senior leadership / CxO levels to explain complicated subjects

- Demonstrable understanding of operational efficiency/metrics

- Ideally understands and can lead on the deployment of Lean Accounting principles

- Understanding of workforce and capacity management modelling
