Manager - R&D - Construction Firm (10-15 yrs)

Position: Manager - R&D

Location: Chennai

Qualification: M.Tech., in Geotechnical Engg.

Experience: 10-12 years of relevant Exp. In Geotechnical engineering.

General Skills required:

Good Communication, Good analytical and basic programming skills, Good aptitude in R&D works, Team builder, Time management skills, Adaptability to change.

Technical Skills required:

1. Able to independently perform and coordinate geotechnical laboratory tests such index tests, Permeability, Triaxial test (CU/UU), Consolidation, various tests on rocks, etc., as per relevant national and international standards.

2. Able to independently perform and coordinate geotechnical field testing such as SPT, CPT, Pile load test, electrical resistivity, logging of boreholes, etc., as per relevant national and international standards

3. Preparation of geotechnical investigation reports, its analysis and interpretation of test results to provide recommendations on geotechnical design parameters. 


4. Experience in NABL accreditation system, particularly in handling system and technical documents, calculation of MU, ILC/PT coordination, facing internal and external audits, etc 


5. Hands-on experience in solving various troubleshooting issues at site such as the settlement of foundations, ground improvement, ground anchors, slope stabilized earth walls, sheet piles and diaphragm walls, etc. is preferred.

6. Strong fundamentals and design knowledge on the analysis and design of both shallow and deep foundations, various ground improvement techniques, consolidation, slope stabilization, gabion walls, soldier pile, sheet pile and diaphragm wall with ground anchors etc. is preferred.

7. Working experience in performing 2D/3D numerical modelling of soil-structure interaction problems (using PLAXIS) would be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

1. To supervise, support, mentor laboratory testing works received from various project sites from time to time, as per the requirements of NABL accreditation system.

2. To supervise, maintain and updating of NABL documents pertaining to geotechnical division and to handle technical audits by NABL as a geotechnical lead.

3. To provide cost-effective, time-saving, and practical solutions to troubleshooting geotechnical problems of project sites based on core expertise and experience.

4. To provide technical expertise on design / value-enhanced solutions to conventional construction/ design practices.

5. To perform R&D works on those problems of futuristic business potential and devise strategy for its implementation.

6. Responsible for constant up gradation of testing facilities keeping in view of digitalization.
