With projects across Africa and India, we advocate for the rights of disabled people and empower them to stay healthy, access education and employment and to participate in their communities.

Motivation India was established in 2011 as a charitable trust to spearhead our work in India and South Asia. We have a rich history spanning over two decades in the region, with key interventions in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India and projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar. Motivation India is expanding its scope and activities and is setting up a team of highly motivated and qualified professionals to lead its growth.

Job purpose:

Working closely with the Director Fundraising, the Communications Manager will be responsible for development and implementation of an integrated strategy for the building of a high-performance communications function that will raise our profile and build influence with key stakeholders. The position holder will identify the key communications needs of Motivation India and align it with its core functions and goals so that we are more consistent and proactive in how we present Motivation's work and impact.

Motivation India has a small, growing communications and fundraising team. The post holder will be an important member of this team and work closely with our global team members (and consultants) who specialise in communications across platforms, channels and formats.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Strategy

1.1. Develop and implement a communications strategy for Motivation India, which aligns with and enables the delivery of the organizational strategy and the global communications strategy.

1.2. Recommend and deliver communication campaigns and activities that will enhance our profile, reach new audiences, build and strengthen our partnership communities and support funding streams in order to achieve our organizational strategy.

2. Digital Communications

2.1. Lead the development of a Motivation India digital communications strategy that supports key external communications goals, to grow our digital presence through the website, e-news and social media channels.

2.2. Coordinate with UK-based communications staff to deliver digital content and campaigns for Motivation India that can be shared on global channels.

2.3. Ensure alignment with all Motivation digital communication policies, so that content and activities follow branding, safeguarding and social media policies and work with staff to ensure they are following protocols and guidelines.

2.4. Manage, update and create content for Motivation India's website regularly and increase engagement on the website through SEO and other available tools.

2.5. Coordinate and implement an integrated social media plan that supports organisational communications goals and includes requests from teams as appropriate.

2.6. Manage Motivation India's presence on various digital platforms, including online fundraising platforms like Give India and Global Giving.

2.7. Develop and manage a database of supporters and partners for targeted communications and enhance engagement for fundraising.

3. Media Relations & PR

3.1. Develop and oversee a proactive media relations plan, working with teams across the organisation to identify newsworthy stories that can be turned into press releases to generate high quality coverage

3.2. Identify and develop relationships with relevant and appropriate media to ensure wide and accurate coverage of Motivation's work to the public

3.3. Be the first point of contact for requests for information and photographs by the media and oversee subsequent press work, arranging logistics and interviews as appropriate

3.4. Represent Motivation when required at external media and PR related events and be actively involved in any external events on behalf of Motivation, to represent the fundraising team

4. Materials and publications

4.1. Ensure that Motivation's brand in India and the region is used consistently, appropriately and in alignment with global branding, including our visual and written identity. Liaise with the UK-based communications team to ensure that any global branding reflects the region. Ensure that branding is conveyed to all staff internally and externally.

4.2. Lead on the development of Motivation's newsletter and Annual Report and accompanying materials

4.3. Source and liaise with external suppliers including graphic designers and printers to fulfil our publication requirements that adhere to our brand and values.

4.4. Create other promotional materials as needed with available design software.

5. Content Management

5.1. Produce accurate, consistent and powerful copy and content for use on various channels including web, videos and publications.

5.2. Ensure all processes and procedures are followed for collecting, storing and using any content (photos, videos and stories) so that we are fully compliant with data protection and safeguarding regulations.

5.3. Work with teams and freelancers to collect and source high quality photographs, videos and stories that help produce compelling content for all communications channels.

6. General

6.1. Manage enquiries and requests for information by the general public in relation to Motivation India's work and direct to the appropriate department.

6.2. Work within agreed income and expenditure budgets, being accountable for all spending within agreed areas of operation.

6.3. Manage volunteers in accordance with Motivation's volunteer policies.

6.4. Work with senior team to help improve internal communications so that staff feel valued, understand their role within the organisation and are inspired to be the best they can be within it

6.5. Carry out other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as requested by the line manager.

Person Specification

- Graduation and above, preferably in Mass Communications, Public Policy, development communication or any other related field.

- At least four years' experience in similar position in NGO/ INGO/ Media/ Advertising agencies. Experience in digital fundraising and communication will be an asset.

- Strong analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking skills

- Ability to be a self-starter and think proactively.

- Conversant with Canva

- The ability to think creatively/ laterally.

- Excellent storytelling skills with fluency in written and spoken English.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team

- Confident in taking initiative and exploring new opportunities.
