Position : Manager/Assistant Director - International Tax
Reports to : Tax Director
Location : Gurgaon
Key Responsibilities:
The Manager/Assistant Director will lead and manage international tax engagements, providing technical tax advice and compliance solutions for multinational clients.
1. Strategic Tax Planning and Compliance:
- Lead US-outbound and inbound tax planning for the international operations of US and non-US companies.
- Develop and implement repatriation strategies, foreign tax credit optimization, and local country tax planning opportunities.
Manage the preparation of international tax forms, including:
- Forms 5471 for Controlled Foreign Corporations (CFCs)
- Forms 8858 and 8865 for flow-through foreign entities
- Forms 1120-F and 1040-NR
- Forms 1118 and 1116 for foreign tax credits
- Oversee the preparation of international ASC 740 (FAS 109/FIN 48) tax accruals, global effective tax rate calculations, and footnote disclosures.
- Maintain documentation for earnings and profits pool, tax pool, Previously Taxed Earnings and Profits (PTEP), and US tax basis for foreign subsidiaries/branches.
- Analyze and manage quarterly estimated payments, taxable distributions, - 987 gains/losses, Subpart F income, ECI, GILTI, CFC attribution, Section 245A Deduction, hybrid transactions, 163(j), FDII, and more.
- Manage multinational clients' quarterly US tax payments and analyze the international tax implications on US tax estimates.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations and reporting requirements.
2. Client Relationship and Engagement Management:
- Act as a primary point of contact for clients, addressing critical areas of tax importance.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of client businesses and industries.
- Present complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to clients and stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue additional service opportunities by understanding client needs and business strategies.
3. Team Leadership and Project Management:
- Lead a multidisciplinary team, communicating project objectives, work plans, and timelines effectively.
- Mentor and develop Associates and Senior Associates by providing guidance, performance feedback, and on-the-job training.
- Manage workload and delegate tasks to ensure timely and accurate project deliverables.
- Foster a team-oriented culture, encouraging open communication and diverse perspectives.
- Conduct day-to-day management of client accounts to ensure quality, efficiency, and accuracy of work products.
4. Business Development:
- Lead business development efforts by creating proposals, client presentations, and other resources.
- Drive add-on work by leveraging client insights and demonstrating the value of additional services.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop strategic initiatives and expand client offerings.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation
- EA or CPA certification (preferred)
Experience:
- Manager Level: Minimum 8+ years of International Tax or Transaction Tax experience, preferably within a professional services environment
- Assistant Director Level: 10+ years of relevant experience with proven leadership in managing tax workstreams and mentoring staff
- Demonstrated experience leading complex tax projects and client engagements
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of US and international tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Strong leadership and project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey complex tax concepts
- Client relationship management and business development skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and tax return software
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Proactive, solution-driven mindset with the ability to make critical decisions
