Maersk - Category Manager - Asset Category Management - Logistics & Services Business

Maersk Line is looking to hire Category Manager, Asset Category Management- L&S for Mumbai Location.

This position supports the footprint expansion of Maersk L&S to become reliant with growth in owned and self-managed warehousing, Depots and cold chain products in addition to third party sites. There is a massive push towards having consolidation, deconsolidation, fulfilment centres and contract logistics operations in strategic markets.

L&S Asset Category Management team within Global Maersk Procurement Organization is responsible for Global Category Management of all CAPEX and OPEX spend for Maersk L&S within the areas of Material Handling Equipment ( Forklifts, Counter balance trucks, Pallet movers, Reach trucks etc), Equipment outside the sites ( Trucks, Yard Goats, Container Handling equipment etc), Warehousing Automation, sorting systems, asset deployment in Cold Chain Logistics facilities, Automation and Asset Lifecycle Management including Maintenance & Repair. The position maintains the global pipeline of requirements, analyse the spends and establish frame agreements and processes to deploy right assets in the new and existing facilities at the right time at the right cost with full visibility of portfolio. The analysis of buy Vs Lease and its suitability in various markets. The position also maintains the global relationships with suppliers for favourable terms and quick turnaround time with Maersk.

The individual in this position is required to work closely with more than 300 Maersk Owned and third-party sites globally, managed under 29 commercial Areas. This position is responsible to develop new suppliers and leverage the global footprint to get best terms for Maersk. This position drives Maersk strategic objectives through a systematic and disciplined approach to category management.

The position is responsible to manage the existing and new L&S sites asset categories for Ongoing/upcoming key projects/initiatives under the category scope

Key responsibilities:

- Manage procurement process for asset deployments in Maersk L&S sites of more than USD 1 billion revenue

- Accountable for global Category Management of:

Equipment (all Maersk sites- Warehouses, Cold Chain and Depots)

Automation (Robotics, AGVs, Sorting systems and other warehousing automations)



Other assets as deployed in warehousing context

- Accountable for formulating, driving and implementing category strategies

- Responsible for managing relationships with technical stakeholders internally and externally

- Accountable for the overall development and execution of the Category scope procurement of assets (Capex and Opex), technology and M&S requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develop and establish deep category insights for Maersk

- Lead and execute the procurement projects

- Lead Supplier Contract/Price negotiations

- Actively engage with technical/engineering functional and leaders of various Logistics and Services products to translate the business and commercial requirements

- Drive Buy Vs Lease discussions and own the final strategy

- Maintain the pipeline of projects with agreed turnaround time of asset deployment and project derivable

- Drive accountability and deliver results on key financial and operational metrics such as cash discipline, cost savings and asset utilization

- Develop and manage key suppliers through structured Supplier Relationship Management.

- Act as the centre of excellence for the managed categories through complete understanding of the products, their application, suppliers, industry trends, competitive landscape, future technologies and innovations

- Support the business functions and business units in resolving Supplier Delivery, Quality, Commercial or Contractual issues.

- Coordinate with Area and regional procurement teams to ensure effective negotiation and contract implementation, harvesting supplier synergies and streamlined engagement with business functions across relevant categories.

- Champion implementation of internal risk management / mitigation controls to ensure compliance to corporate policies and statutory rules, regulations, and laws

We are looking for:

- Preferably more than 10 years of relevant work experience, technical degree and work experience within procurement or sales is preferred

- Project Management experience in capex deployments at warehousing sites

- Supplier/customer management & negotiations experience will be an advantage

- Experience with strategy development and implementation is preferred

- Ability to, independently and as a part of a team, proactively and successfully complete assigned tasks with excellent results while meeting agreed deadlines

- Ability to grasp information quickly and relate to defined procurement process

- Ability to manage internal & external stakeholders efficiently

- Excellent English language communication skills both verbal and written

- Willingness to travel approx. 10-20% of work time
