Assistant Manager - M&A Strategy

We are recruiting for an Assistant Manager. Working in this role would require to work closely with the US Strategy team to develop the M&A specialist hub within the Strategy team. Sitting within the Strategy Hub and serving as an extension of the US Strategy M&A / commercial due diligence team, selected candidates will support engagements across all areas of analysis and reporting. In addition, candidates will have a fundamental role in establishing and developing a primary research capability to support the M&A hub.

The role would offer the individual multiple benefits :

- Opportunity to become a deal specialist, focusing on M&A, and in particular, commercial due diligence

- Work closely with Strategy colleagues in the US and become an integrated member of their project teams

- Develop proposition expertise with the opportunity to work across industries and be exposed to the differing business models that operate within them

- Develop primary research skills to manage live dialogues with industry experts and target company customers and prospects and to engage with KPMG's clients

- Develop the necessary skills to give an opinion on the likely profitability and success of any given business by understanding the addressable opportunity, the likely success of its plans and the appropriateness of its business model.

- Ultimately, the opportunity to take ownership of entire work streams on M&A engagements, being fully integrated with onshore engagement teams and in client discussions

The role would initially focus on developing and executing primary research as an input to the US Strategy's M&A / commercial due diligence activity. The role will evolve over time to encompass greater responsibility in the domain of M&A Strategy.

Key responsibility areas would include :

- Working with the M&A project teams in the US as an integrated team member throughout the project life cycle, right from the identification of the initial hypothesis, to the final recommendations on the target's commercial attractiveness

- Supporting the hypothesis through adequate secondary as well as primary research. Primary research could include (Activities would get progressively more sophisticated with time, based on demonstrated capabilities):

- Responsibility for Conducting interviews with identified industry experts. This would include:

- Developing interview guides

- Establishing contact profile with third party vendor(s)

- Vetting contacts

- Identifying additional contacts via internal sources (e.g., KPMG, LinkedIn, academics, journalists, etc.)

- Scheduling interviews

- Conducting interviews and recording as well as summarizing interview learnings

- Including relevant insights from the interviews in the final report

- Engaging in client discussions regarding interview learnings

- Responsibility for managing surveys within primary research efforts on projects including:

- Developing surveys

- Overseeing and vetting survey programming

- Testing survey beta and approving launch

- Working with third party vendor to increase sample size

- Summarizing survey findings

- Writing sections of presentations related to the survey

- Engaging in client discussions regarding survey learning's

Skills & Qualifications :

- Relevant experience of 5-7 yrs in M&A advisory, with experience in primary research (especially expert interviews) a must

- MBAs, CFAs and Engineers from a leading Indian/International educational institution

- Flexibility to adapt to a variety of different engagement types as well as working hours as suitable to the teams in the US

- Be comfortable working to tight deadlines and demanding requirements

- High Strong problem solving skills

- Strong numerical, analytical and strategic thinking skills - ability to demonstrate how one supports the other - and sound commercial acumen

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
