Manager - Civic Learning (iCivics) About Janaagraha Janaagraha, a Bangalore based non-profit having the objective of transforming quality of life in India's cities and towns, is among the best-known organisations working on urban transformation. Janaagraha was founded in December 2001 as a platform for citizen participation in cities. Today, it works with citizens on catalysing active citizenship in neighbourhoods and with governments to institute reforms to city-systems, also referred to as urban governance reforms. Janaagraha is part of the Jana Group, and was co-Founded by Ramesh Ramanathan and Swati Ramanathan. Civic Learning under the name Bala Janaagraha was launched as a pilot effort in Bengaluru in June 2002. The pilot effort covered 170 children spread over 5 schools. It has now reached over 4,00,000 children across 800+ schools in 29 cities. Over 18,900 civic projects covering 6,900 roads have been completed with 17,000 students having met with local governments in the last 4 years itself. The program design and construct has been planned to enable 21st century skills such as critical thinking and reasoning capacities, collaboration, multidisciplinary thinking, deliberation, and bridge- building among others. While the content promotes activity based and experiential learning, the civic project activity aims to make children think beyond symptoms and about root causes, engage with their local communities and feel empowered to be a change maker while also building in students' critical skills for their future. Should be a passionate youth leader with domain expertise in public policy, school education, with a deep understanding of developing content, understanding of key stakeholder viz. Children and youth, educators, parents mindsets and attitudes, working knowledge of technology platforms and development. Should have strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and experience in stakeholder management. Should be driven by the mission of delivering civic leadership at scale among India's youth in cities. The role is based out of Bangalore, India. What would Manager, Civic Learning (iCivics) do? - Support Head-Civic Learning in conceiving and documenting the proposition of an Indian version of iCivics.org, as a national platform of civic learning for India's youth - Understand the existing /legacy program efforts to the program's mission and its five year objectives and evolve a content strategy. - Execute the content plan for iCivics and other strands by working with Head-Civic Learning and the program team, collating, curating and creating content as necessary - Draw up a plan to synergise existing/legacy program efforts and outputs with proposed iCivics platform in terms of content - Engage with youth leaders and civic learning organisations to understand different models currently in practice and their relative pros and cons - Obtain a deep understanding of technology platforms, lifecycle of development, landscape of vendors, costs and timelines including ongoing maintenance efforts to facilitate choice of appropriate course of action to build iCivics (i.e. outsource vs build in house, and also choice of technology) - Obtain a deep understanding of the target groups for iCivics, mainly teachers and students, and their user behaviour, preferences etc., synthesise learnings and inform product development on an ongoing basis - Identify technology partners and assume full responsibility for end-to-end development of the platform Qualifications and Experience - A Graduate/Post Graduate in Public Policy/Education; - At least 5-6 years of professional work experience in managing education projects/working at the intersection of technology/policy/education What we look for in Manager - Civic Learning (iCivics) - Existing knowledge of/Ability and willingness to grasp quickly, concepts of the programme, the skeletal framework for the technology platform we intend to build. - Ability to work with ambiguity - Persuasive skills to engage with various stakeholders and deliver on programme objectives. - Strong programme management skills - Excellent communication skills- both written and verbal - Willingness to extend oneself to accomplish work objectives with tight deadlines, simultaneously pursuing excellence - Positive attitude, flexibility and ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment What Janaagraha offers At Janaagraha, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and passionate citizens who apply cutting-edge technologies and practices aimed at social change in India's cities.
