Introduction:

Nordic Microfinance Initiative AS (NMI) was established in 2008- as a collaboration between- public authorities- and private investors- to- invest in and build institutions providing financial inclusion- in- developing countries.- Private sector investors include pension funds and family offices from Norway and Denmark, and the public sector is represented by Norfund, the Norwegian Government Investment Fund for Developing Countries, and IFU, the corresponding Danish government fund.

NMI's mission is empowerment of poor people in developing countries and creation of jobs and wealth on a sustainable basis. The organization creates both social and economic results by investing in and building financial inclusion institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, India and Southeast Asia. Their head office is Oslo, along with other offices based in Copenhagen, Jakarta, Nairobi and New Delhi. NMI- currently manages five funds- with total commitments of more than USD 350 million and through their investments, they are- reaching close to 10 million clients.

Reason for the hire:

- NMI is growing strongly, including in India, and is planning to hire an Investment Associate. The Associate would be a part of the investment team that identifies, analyzes and manages the NMI's portfolio of investments.


- They would have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in finance in an international environment with committed and experienced colleagues, and with investments in very interesting and demanding markets.


- A key task will be to analyse companies and assist in preparing a solid decision-making basis for NMI management, investment committees and the Board.


- The position will work under the guidance of the Investment Director based in NCR, India for his/her day-to-day activities.


- The right candidate will have ample opportunities to contribute to the further development of NMI and would be a part of a professionally sound and good working environment, with opportunities for both professional and personal development.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Assist in building deal pipeline and screen deals in the region, primarily South Asia, that are aligned to NMI's investment strategy

- Appraise investment proposals, with emphasis on risks and risk mitigation

- Participate in due diligence and value analysis on potential deals

- Prepare financial analysis and models, in readiness for the investment committee

- Be part of a team preparing the final investment memorandum and assist in managing the investment administration process

- Assist in monitoring performance of existing investments and investment portfolios, including social performance measurements

- Track new developments and opportunities in the financial inclusion sectors

- Assist in preparation of presentations and reports for the management and the board

- Ad hoc tasks and projects.

Must Haves:

- Professional degree (CA/MBA) from a reputed Institution and Bachelor's degree in Commerce

- 3-4 years of experience in investment environment, financial management, auditing, transaction consultancy or the like

- Must have strong fundamentals in finance.

- Must have basic investment knowledge with term sheets, valuations, investments cycle, financial modelling and so on.

- Must be comfortable with proactive front end exchanges.

Preferable:

- Ability to interpret and analyse financial statements and data

- Understanding of investment contours, transaction multiples and valuation

- Experience with financial modelling and report writing

- Advance skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Office products

- Good English knowledge, both written and oral

- Experience with other countries and cultures is an advantage

- Knowledge of relevant regulations, term sheets, and definitive documents is preferable

- Analytical and able to see both the details and the big picture

- Strong quantitative skills

- Strategic mindset

- Good networking and communication skills

- Ambitious and self-motivated with an interest in developing yourself professionally and personally

- A team player - ability to work with different team members and multi-task

- Inclined to take the initiative and responsibility on tasks

- Hardworking, dedicated and able to deliver high-quality work on a timely basis.

- Interested in different countries and cultures
