HSBC - AVP - Country Risk - Wholesale Credit & Market Risk [WMR] is responsible for the approvals, policies, portfolio management and reporting on the Groups Wholesale Credit and Market Risk exposures. - The Country Risk Unit (CRU) is an integral part of WMR in HSBCs Group Risk functions. - The CRU undertakes review/assessment of more than 200 countries and dependent territories within Group Risk, independent of business units. The CRU scores also determine the country classification under the HSBC group country rating system, which sets appetite for Cross-Border Business. The CRU provides comprehensive data and in-depth analysis of political, financial and economic risk for Sovereigns and Countries. - The primary responsibility is to undertake sovereign and country reviews, which is a key part of the Group's management of its sovereign and cross-border exposure. - This will involve preparing assessments and making appropriate recommendations on appetite for cross-border risk. Additionally, the job-holder may be required to provide inputs to various analytical works and produce high quality reports for the Groups senior management Primary responsibilities will include the following activities : - Annual Country and Sovereign risk review/assessment for countries assigned. - Collecting and analyzing all the relevant parameters affecting the creditworthiness of a country. - Evaluate the ratings produced by the HSBCs Sovereign risk model and country risk model and if required propose adjustments to the model generated ratings with appropriate justifications. - Discuss the sovereign and country risk rating with country CEO and CRO, in addition to regional CRO, Heads and economists and get their approval on final sovereign ratings and country classification. - Undertake the necessary and valid inputs from the regions and incorporate in the review text and scoring, if possible. - Undertake the approval of country reviews by Risk Head within WMR or Group CRO, especially for sensitive or high risk countries. Minimum Qualification and Skills Required : - 8+ yrs of exp with Post-graduate qualifications in Macroeconomics (or a related discipline) and knowledge of quantitative techniques, preferably from a reputed institute. - Sound analytical skills, plus ability to work on own initiative with a flexible approach to issues. - Very strong report writing skill and command over language is essential. - A good understanding of both economic data sources and political cultures would be a critical advantage. - Experience in credit analysis is a key, prior exposure to sovereign risk analysis would be an advantage.
