Business:  Markets Management Office, Control Office  Role Purpose :   - Providing support and input for the design and operation of governance framework within Markets and BSM  - Responsibility for key processes owned by the governance function.  Direct involvement in key business risk and control initiatives, such as :  - Managing Conflicts of Interest Register;  - Maintain updates to governance structure;  - Maintain Conduct Maturity Assessment;  - Support ongoing FIM improvements.  Principal Accountabilities:   1. Impact on the Business :  - A strong governance framework is critical for effective risk management in the business. The role plays a key part in helping the Markets business to understand and manage their risks within the governance framework, with a direct impact on the achievement of high level business objectives through improved decision making  - The individual will be helping to monitor and develop the governance framework in Markets, including key policies, standards and guidance  - The role will require challenge to the businesses where required to enable any required changes in business governance, policies or processes  - Demonstrable and detailed understanding of the impact of governance on business objectives  - Improved transparency in reporting of risks within business governance  - To identify and drive improvements in the governance framework  2. Customers / Stakeholders :  - Markets Regional and Asset Class Business Heads, and their respective COOs and Business Managers, and Senior   Management in support areas including GBM Risk and GBM Control Office.  - Part of the Markets Control Office with associated responsibility within the wider risk and control agenda.  - Positive feedback from stakeholders both in the business and relevant functions, as appropriate.  3. Teamwork :  - Working with the Governance regional lead and the governance team, managing individual work and the joint objectives of the team on a daily basis.  - Work with central team or functional teams to assist in the development of framework and policy.   - Positive feedback from other team members, and readiness to help colleagues  4. Operational Effectiveness & Control :  - Assist and provide input into the ongoing development of the Markets governance framework.  - Strategic mind-set, to be able to drive control initiatives e.g. Root Cause Analysis, Themes and Trends  - Involvement in the development and business as usual implementation of key risk and control initiatives, including top risks and lessons learned and regular reconciliation to GBM top and emerging risks  - Analysis of Management Information, including meeting packs from regional, business and GBM committees.  - Assist with GPAF in order to support ongoing FIM improvements for existing policies and management of policy pipeline for new policies  - Contribute to managing relationships between the team and Markets business lines and their respective support groups, gaining an in-depth understanding of those businesses and becoming accepted as a trusted advisor in the design and operating effectiveness of their governance processes.  - Assist with ad hoc project work and special investigations to provide further analysis as requested by management.  - Support Business Control Committee structure to ensure key risks are considered and control weaknesses are addressed and actioned effectively.  - Regular interaction with markets & BSM control officers to effectively manage governance agenda.  - Provide support and analysis for Management Information initiatives.  - Assist in the administration of the portfolio reporting cycle, confirming adherence to the process by all programmes and projects.  - Aid in the production of the Markets Control & Governance packs.  - Candidate would be expected to keep abreast of industry wide compliance and risk developments and continually assess the impact these might have on the firm.   - To identify and drive improvements in the governance framework  - Identification of value added activities or project work for either the team or the Control Office generally to undertake.  - Identification of areas for improvement in governance framework and development of plans to address the issues identified.  - Provide a value-added product to business management for inclusion in key meetings or committees.  - Positive feedback from other team members and readiness to help colleagues   - Maintenance of quality Management Information   Major Challenges :  - Identification of areas for enhancement in the governance framework in line with ongoing regulatory challenges to the business and the associated high expectations of senior management  - Development of initiatives to address weaknesses identified and implementation through close ongoing work with the - Governance team and Control Officers  - Maintaining adequate level of business expertise across a broad range of business lines  - Meeting the needs of a broad range of stakeholders across countries and businesses  Role Context :  - The governance function has authority for the Markets governance structure, including targeted review of the Markets Functional Instruction Manual  - The team has interaction with business, compliance and support area staff of all levels on a daily basis.   Management of Risk :  The role encompasses a number of risks to the business and the individual is aware of the impact of the role and acts in a manner that takes account of these risk considerations.  Observation of Internal Controls :  - Maintains HSBC internal control standards and policies   - Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy and the Markets Conduct Principles  Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications :  - Prior experience in Audit, Risk & Control or Compliance roles within the Markets business  - Previous experience in an operational risk, internal control or compliance team is advantageous   - Motivated and dynamic, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to urgent requests  - Ability to work closely with team members and collaborate with colleagues globally  - Proficient in MS Office (Inc., Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)  - Good numeracy and analytical skills  - Confident and comfortable with reporting tools and databases, able to quickly to learn new systems  - Strong organizational and time management skills, with a structured, organized approach to work  - Good written and verbal communication skills  - Able to interact in a professional manner at all levels in the organization.  - Work or academic experience in a major onshore hub / country  - Robust track record in dealing with a diverse and international group of stakeholders  - Good communication, negotiation/influencing and presentation skills
