Group Entity: Global Banking and Markets  Role Title : Analyst, Front Office e-communications Surveillance, Global Markets Control Office  Business/Function & Location (Country/Department) : Global Banking and Markets Service Centre, Bangalore  Role Purpose :  The Global Markets Control Office is an extension of the COO Office and partners businesses in the embedding, remediation and improvement of the control environment with respect to key risks to Markets and BSM businesses. The Surveillance function within the Control Office is responsible for monitoring Front Office e-communications, predominantly on the Bloomberg platform, and provides reasonable assurance that communications by Markets and BSM FO staff are consistent with HSBC's communications and conduct policies, and that the GM and BSM businesses are operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, codes and HSBC Group Standards and Values.  The role holder will perform surveillance of Markets and BSM FO staff's e-communications, in line with the objectives mentioned above, and also to detect any forms of inappropriate conduct, including market abuse, disrupting the orderly and transparent functioning of financial markets, not achieving fair outcomes for clients, and usage of non-professional language.   Principal Accountabilities :  1. Impact on the Business/Function :  - Review, investigate and process lexicon-based alerts of GM & BSM FO staff's e-comms generated by Bloomberg Surveillance system   - Escalate exceptions, breaches and instances of irregularities to line manager / London Control Office after careful analysis of alerts  - Identify trends (e.g. repeat offenders) and escalating these  - Continuously suggest refinements to lexicon lists in order to reduce instances of false positives and achieve high-quality alerts  - Produce accurate MI for management  - Accurately logging surveillance activity, maintaining audit trail  - Maintain population list with respect to joiners, movers, leavers  - Assist in the expansion of the surveillance coverage population  - Assist in testing and rolling out upgrades to surveillance system  - Close interaction with London Control Office  - Responsibility for reviewing, processing, escalating and closing alerts in a timely manner  - Achieve high ratio of false positives / genuine alerts   - Ensure as much as possible that escalations to London Control Office are genuine   - Production of accurate MI  2. Discuss these with the local manager and London Control Office for implementation  - Identify and implement best practices   - Validate current procedure manuals and improve where required  - Identify and assist in closing process gap  Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications :  - Graduate with minimum of 3 years of experience in Surveillance and Risk management in the e-communications field   Knowledge of Financial Markets, regulations, products, trading strategies, and terminologies  - Understanding of what constitutes misconduct in Financial Markets, including market abuse; ability to understand e-communications and analyse these for detection of potential inappropriate conduct  - Excellent proficiency in English, including slang, colloquialisms and idioms  - Ability to make accurate judgment calls on the nature of alerts in a short time period (i.e. deciding quickly and reliably what requires escalation)   - Knowledge of Bloomberg Surveillance tools desirable  - Knowledge of other foreign languages desirable  - Ability to learn and grasp and new systems, tools and databases quickly  - Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working effectively and independently in a small team and also collaborate with global colleagues  - Excellent communciation skills (verbal & written)  - High attention to detail  - Proficient in MS Office (incl. Excel & PowerPoint)  - Ability to work under pressure and within tight time-lines. Excellent time management and prioritisation of work tasks. Manage urgent ad-hoc requests from London Control Office / business  - Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning. Ability to clearly articulate implications of analysis and findings  - Strong understanding of Operational Risk  - Previous experience in an offshore centre advantageous
