The Role - The Head of Engineering will lead a team of software developers & testers in developing a suite of web & mobile applications and build out an awesome best-in-class engineering culture and product! - This is a hands-on position, requiring research, analysis, design, proposal and delivery of solutions appropriate to our business and technology strategies. This high performing Lead Engineer will play a diverse and far-reaching role in the organization, providing leadership and influencing adoption of technical solutions, strategies and design patterns across multiple teams and stakeholders. - The best suited candidate will be a highly motivated, hands-on Lead Engineer who leads by example and embodies engineering excellence, with strong collaboration skills, a desire to effect change and the ability to work across multiple functional domains and software disciplines to achieve the Hoichoi engineering team's vision. Role & Responsibilities - Develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility. - Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards. - Collaborate with stakeholders, architects and other engineers to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new applications / modules. - Use tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of desired product - Communicate successfully all concepts and guidelines to the engineering team - Oversee progress of engineering team to ensure consistency with initial design - Responsible for the high level design of the features, leading the development team in understanding and developing requisite features. - Understand the goals, strategy and product vision, translate these into fine-grained tasks to be executed by the technical team of developers. - Own the product roadmap and work with PM & CEO to add new items to it regularly. Make technical & product decisions based on roadmap. - Estimate effort required for the tasks generated on a periodic release schedule basis, and help the product management team prioritize the tasks and features. - Monitor product analytics, recommend improvements to increase revenue and engagement, decrease churn. - Lead the team responsible for the up-time of the web application and ensure it performs to satisfaction at the required scale - Supplement the team's capabilities by getting hands on and coding and testing yourself, when required. - Implement other tools as necessary to help analytics, performance management, DevOps etc. as required by the web application. - Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, reliability. - Build and Mentor a team of engineers, providing requisite technical guidance and coaching. - Create weekly sprints and Dictate deployment workflow process to ensure highest level of productivity - Handle all DevOps, lead search for DevOps team. And own the release process with the DevOps team - Own engineering budget and reduce burn strategically Preferred Technical Skills - B. Tech / B.E. / MCA / M.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering or a relevant field. - Web application backend (including but not limited to) PHP / Java and MySQL or Postgres/Redis: Comprehensive knowledge of these is mandatory. Being conversant with these, but expertise on similar technologies in place of these is acceptable, so long as you are able to pick up new technologies easily. - Web application front end (including but not limited to) HTML, Javascript, Node.js, CSS, jQuery: At least a basic knowledge of these is mandatory. In-depth knowledge is an added asset. - Mobile App Development: Should have experience in developing Android and / or iOS native mobile apps. If not direct hands-on experience, overseeing a team that develops mobile apps is also acceptable. - Must have at least 10 years IT Industry experience with at least 3 years of work experience in PHP or Python based Frameworks like Zend Framework, Symphony, DJango, Flask - Experience in the use of PHP and Python dependency managers such as Composer and/or Pipenv - Proficiency in either PHP or Python or both with and without MVC frameworks - Experience with server-side application development and scalable web-services, especially JSON based REST APIs - Must have experience in delivering a product/mobile app having - Must have experience with either MEAN or MERN stack - Experience with SQL, query optimization and database design - Experience in scaling applications with Data Sharding - Knowledge of the use of caching layers such as Memcached and/or Redis - Understand the trade-offs of using an open-source solution or building from scratch - Familiarity with GIT version control and pull request flow on GitHub and tools like GitHub and/or Bitbucket - Sound understanding of Linux operating systems and different flavors of Linux like CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat, Amazon Linux and familiarity with Vagrant and virtual machines - Must have scripting experience (Bash, Perl, Gradle, Ansible, and/or PowerShell) - Experience with unit tests (PHPUnit, Codeception, Python Unit Testing Frameworks) - Git, Amazon AWS, Linux Tools, XML, JSON: Knowledge of these is highly desirable - Test Automation Tools, DevOps Tools: These are good to have - PMP or Scrum Master Certification desired - Understanding of software quality assurance principles and automated acceptance testing - Knowledge of database migrations - Experience with cloud technologies like AWS, GCP, Azure - Experience with NoSQL databases line MongoDB, Elasticsearch - Must have handled more than 10,000 concurrent requests - Well versed in Agile/Scrum as software development methodology, with or without tools.
