Head - Underwriting - FinTech

The opportunity is with a Series C funded payment and lending-related start up. This rapidly growing and extremely well-funded start-up is looking to grow the business leadership team and bring in a Head - Underwriting

Report to: CRO

Responsibilities include:

Assisting the CRO in establishing operational structures, establish appropriate internal underwriting procedures and criteria to control risk and oversee the development of the company's underwriting systems

- Assessing of loan applications and ensuring adherence to defined policy guidelines - across product categories / geographies

- Managing the overall loan assessment costs within acceptable budgets

- Own the early delinquencies in the portfolio and help resolve early mortality cases

- Work closely with Tech and Product to help develop / enhance risk systems

- Track Operations and ensure deliveries within agreed SLAs

- Ensure a good mix of on-role and agency staff to develop a best in class underwriting practice - delivering on agreed quality and efficiency parameters

- Setup and own a quality control team to effectively monitor and fine tune the risk assessment process

The role is designed to ensure that all loan applications are assessed in accordance with the defined policy / product guidelines. Provide actionable feedback to concerned stakeholders on the quality of sourcing, adjustments required in credit policies, and help collections in recovering the money in the event of default

Qualifications:

- 12 - 15 years risk / underwriting experience in lending across NBFCs, Banks and FinTech/Consumer tech start up

- Major part of the experience should be in unsecured lending

- Experience in a high growth startup preferably in Fintech/Consumer-tech

- Ability to absorb multiple views and operate with the required level of tact & diplomacy with concerned stakeholders

- Strong problem solving and analytical skills with focus on data-driven decision making and result-oriented delivery

- Strong interpersonal & communication skill

- Ability to manage large teams & external business and/or vendor partner relationships

- Well-versed with Excel & PowerPoint
