Head - Taxation

Purpose of This Role :

This position is responsible for leading the Company's tax strategy, compliance, litigation, tax planning etc both for Direct Taxes at Central level and Indirect Taxes across the Country. This also requires working with business, service providers, and other tax professionals in carrying out the desired roles and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities :

(a) Leading / Supervision of Tax Management - Compliance

Leading the full compliance with Direct Tax and Indirect Tax law and the role would include:

- Ensuring timely and correct computation and payment of Taxes within the prescribed statutory timelines and filing of relevant returns.

- Supervision and leading in drafting and filing of replies to authorities against various Notices.

- Attend assessment proceeding, transfer pricing audits as and when required from time to time.

- Certification related to transfer pricing, transfer pricing study and transfer pricing assessments.

- Study of intercompany transactions and the transfer pricing implications thereof and work for framing TP Policy, wherever required.

- Work with the Statutory Auditors and effective supervision to ensure completion of audits within the statutory timelines. This also requires guiding the teams to be actively working with cross-functional teams for information etc and reconciliation of data.

- Constant striving towards improvisation of processes (exclusive dependency on process and less on people), to smoothen the Compliance and thereby making the Company being future ready to handle the audits efficiently.

(b) Leading Tax Management - Litigation :

- Through preparation of matters to be represented before the appellate authorities, including Court on merits and facts, for the positions taken by the Company.

- Attend appellate proceedings at various levels, as and when required from time to time.

- Briefing the advocates on cases for court hearings.

(c) Tax Strategies / Advise to Business / Knowledge enhancement :

- Responsible for assisting in making critical decisions within the framework of law.

- Ensure smooth functioning of the Organization by preventing obstructions that can arise from tax issues faced by the Organization.

- Advise various stakeholders and business partners on various business initiatives and tax optimization. Update latest development & changes in law to appropriate departments and implementation of such changes within the organization. This would include Advise new processes, procedure to cross function teams from tax perspective.

- Interacting with advocates and consultants for opinions related to business issues.

- Enhance technical skills by remaining up-to-date on trends, new legislative developments and tax authority decisions, and apply them to complex situations relevant to the business

- Strategize and implement Tax integration framework for all group entities to a centralized tax framework.

(d) Tax Transformation / Process Optimisation :

- Tax Technology - Leading the Project from the tax team and work along with other organization functions, drive process optimization thru digitisation and evaluating new functionality.

- Partner with Process Counterparts/cross finance teams to work on process issues/organizational concerns impacting tax compliance/applicability/ either from a system or process perspective.

(e) Governance :

- Drive the culture of effective governance, compliance and risk management frameworks across to drive holistic performance and maintain reputation of the Company.

- Possesses a very high level of integrity while dealing with any external regulators, business partner or employees etc.

- Manage issues to mitigate impact and risk by early involvement.

- Guide resolution of issues and proactively create an environment where risk is avoided.

Background & experience :

- Chartered Accountant with 20 + years of experience in Direct & Indirect Taxation.

- Candidates with experience in working with Big 4, followed by in Industry businesses will be preferred. This may include large corporate house with multiple entities in the Group.

- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to deal effectively with all levels of management.

- Quick learner with the ability to identify and drive changes to get more efficient and accurate results.

- Hands on experience of working on SAP will be an added advantage.
