Head - Safety, Health & Envt (13-16 yrs)

Responsibilities

The candidate will develop and implement effective Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Policy, management systems, maintain SHE regulatory compliance and help improve overall safety culture. He will provide leadership and technical support to ensure compliance with applicable corporate and regulatory requirements, while minimizing the risk of potential adverse SHE events.

Other key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Develops and deploys SHE procedures, training, internal and external communications in concert with corporate SHE and regulatory requirements.

- Leads deployment of risk assessment tool and control plans development.

- Well versed with ISO-14001 & OHSAS-18001 standards and regulatory SHE requirements. Supports incident investigation activities, root cause analysis, corrective action identification and closure, monitors trends and champions injury/illness reduction as well as directs the organization in management of emergency conditions and containment actions.

- Leads and participates in safety self-assessments and safety audits. Presents findings to management and prepares applicable reports. Tracks corrective actions with concerned to closure.

- Coordinates industrial hygiene programs for eg noise, chemicals & vibration exposure assessments, and works closely with management team to assure implementation of medical surveillance requirements.

- Demonstrates subject matter expertise in safety, health and the environmental and the ability to effectively deliver training as may be required by the regulatory agencies.

- Promotes best practices in Safety sharing, legal compliance and common solution implementation by leading working groups with Plant SHE leaders.

- Develops & mentors Safety / SHE team members.

- Provides technical and strategic assistance to the site when involved with enforcement authorities.

- Advises Project management team managers concerning the organization’s environmental and safety objectives and assists in determining & implementing corrective action.

- Develops and assure compliance with contractor safety management processes.

- Formulate SHE in Projects Framework.

- Ensure that SHE is addressed adequately in all stages of Projects viz. conceptual, design, detailed engineering, construction, erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning & handing over to Production, thereby assure that all SHE risks in these stages are identified and mitigation measures put in place.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

To be effective and successful in this role, the candidate will need the following qualifications & experience and attributes as a minimum:

- Qualifications in Engineering / Science.

- Additional qualification in Safety or Safety & Environment

- Extensive experience in a full time Safety / SHE role with about 13-16 years.

- A comprehensive knowledge of safety legislation and management systems.

- Proven ability to successfully lead change. This would include influencing stakeholders, appropriately managing resistance to change and developing suitable communication strategies.

- Demonstrable personal attributes to effectively communicate and influence all levels of employees and leadership.

- Experienced in change management and continuous improvement projects.

- Fairly good communications skills in English.
