Position Overview:

The Head of Research and Development (R&D) will lead the R&D function of the automotive company, driving innovation, product development, and advanced engineering solutions. This role is responsible for managing the entire R&D process, from concept design and prototyping to final production, ensuring that the company remains a leader in automotive technology. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of automotive engineering and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, cutting-edge products.

Key Responsibilities:

- R&D Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive R&D strategy that aligns with the companys business objectives and technological vision.


- Ensure the continuous development of innovative automotive products and solutions.


- Product Development: Oversee the product development process, from conceptualization through prototyping and testing to production.


- Ensure all projects meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.


- Technology Innovation: Identify emerging automotive technologies, such as electric vehicles (EV), autonomous driving systems, and connected car technologies, and integrate them into the companys product pipeline.


- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to ensure alignment between R&D and business goals, ensuring the smooth transition from design to production.


- Sustainability & Efficiency: Lead efforts in developing environmentally sustainable automotive solutions, focusing on energy efficiency, lightweight materials, and reducing emissions.


- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and collaboration.


- Ensure continuous learning and development within the department.


- Budget Management: Manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to deliver projects on time and within budget.


- Project Management: Oversee multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and maintaining the highest standards of product quality.


- Supplier & Partner Collaboration: Work with external partners, suppliers, and academic institutions to foster collaborative research efforts and integrate new technologies into the product development process.


- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all products developed comply with automotive industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.


- Intellectual Property (IP) Management: Ensure that the companys innovations and developments are protected through patents and other intellectual property rights.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- Proven experience as a Head of R&D, Engineering Director, or similar senior leadership role within the automotive or manufacturing industry.


- Strong knowledge of automotive engineering principles, including vehicle design, powertrain systems, electronics, and materials science.


- Experience with new technologies such as electric vehicles (EV), autonomous driving systems, and connected car solutions.


- Demonstrated track record of leading successful R&D projects and delivering innovative products to the market.


- Strong project management skills with experience overseeing complex, large-scale product development efforts.


- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire innovation and creativity.
- Proficient in automotive industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.


- Bachelors or Masters degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.


- A PhD or advanced degree in engineering is preferred.


- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with other departments and external partners.
