In an auto component manufacturing company the Head of M&A and Strategy would play a critical role in driving growth, competitiveness, and future-proofing , the business in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape (EV transition, supply chain shifts, global expansion, etc.).
Role of Head of M&A and Strategy at an Auto Component Manufacturer
1. Corporate Strategy Development :
- Define and execute - 5-10 year strategic growth plans- , including diversification into adjacent technologies (e.g., EV, e-mobility systems).
- Identify - key market trends- (EV, lightweighting, software-defined vehicles, localization, export opportunities).
- Develop - product portfolio roadmaps- aligned with OEM and Tier-1 client evolution.2. M\&A Origination and Execution-
2. M&A Origination and Execution :
- Identify strategic acquisition or JV opportunitie in EV components and technology (e-motors, battery connectors, control systems)
- Global suppliers or distributors to expand market presence (especially Europe/US)
- Complementary capabilities (plastic molding, PCB manufacturing, telematics)
- Conduct due diligence, valuation modeling, synergy analysis, and deal structuring.
- Work with legal and finance teams to close deals and manage risks.
3. Global Expansion & Strategic Partnerships :
- Support company's ambition to scale in global markets by:
- Targeting partnerships or technology transfers with European/Japanese firms
- Evaluating greenfield or brownfield manufacturing in proximity to OEM customers
- Supporting negotiations for global OEM contracts
4. Post-Merger Integration (PMI) & Value Realization :
- Ensure seamless integration of acquired companies-operationally, culturally, and financially.
- Drive synergy capture through cost optimization, shared sourcing, or expanded product lines.
- Monitor KPIs against the business case of the transaction.
5. Operational & Financial Analytics for Strategic Decisions :
- Conduct make-vs-buy analysis for critical components.
- Benchmark competitors' cost structures, R\&D spends, and client mix.
- Recommend rationalization of underperforming product lines or facilities.
6. Internal Strategic Projects :
- Evaluate backward or forward integration opportunities.
- Lead strategic reviews of key verticals (e.g., wiring harness, connectors, sensors).
- Explore in-house development vs. licensing strategies for new tech (e.g., CAN bus, HV connectors).
Ideal Profile for This Role :
- 12-18 years of experience in M&A, strategy, or corporate development within auto/industrial sectors.
- Deep understanding of - automotive value chains- , OEM-Tier 1-Tier 2 dynamics.
- Experience in - cross-border transactions- and - technology partnerships- .
- Strong financial acumen (deal valuation, IRR modeling, due diligence).
- Excellent stakeholder and board communication skills.
