Head - Marine Cargo Insurance (10-14 yrs)

Summary Description :

This position is responsible to identify and assess potential risks to the Company and manage those risks with insurance programs consistent with the Company's overall risk strategy. The Manager of Risk and Insurance will work closely with our insurance brokers, legal department and all levels of management and staff within the Company to manage claims and minimize costs. Strong written and verbal communications skills are necessary for liaising with management at all levels, insurance brokers, third-party adjusters and attorneys. This position is extremely demanding in a fast-paced, lean work environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

- Marine Cargo Insurance expertise

- Assist in verifying policy limits, deductibles, locations, exclusions, and endorsements.

- Answer and return phone calls and emails from insureds, attorneys, claimants, and other contacts.

- Investigate each claim and evaluate coverage, liability and damages.

- Develop and manage litigation plan with outside counsel.

- Examine and monitor claim status for potential exposure opportunities.

- Review coverage matters, analyses, and determinations.

- Responsible for maintaining claim files with a level of complexity that warrants enhanced skill or expertise.

- Ensure that claims are analyzed for coverage, documentation and are adjusted and paid properly within company guidelines.

- Evaluate coverage and liability.

- Analyze claim loss and expense exposure and ensures that all assigned claims are properly and timely reserved.

- Develop and pursue actions that are designed to protect the insured and achieve optimal claim outcomes.

- Ensure timely communication and feedback to underwriters as appropriate.

- Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization, which includes an analysis of the financial impact on the company when risks occur

- Assess and evaluate risks that affect the company and ensure risks are property addressed and mitigated

- Report claims to the carriers, gather information from internal customers, provide documentation for the claim, present estimates, respond to legal proceedings, etc.

- Understand the level of risk the company is willing to accept and ensure insurance programs are consistent with the risk tolerance

- Prepare risk management and insurance budgets

- Prepare risk reporting tailored to the relevant audiences

- Create and communicate business continuity plans to limit risks

- Maintain records of insurance policies and claims

- Review new, major contracts or internal business proposals

- Oversee claims management for the North America business, including General Liability, Property, Marine Cargo, Employers Liability, Auto, and credit

- Partner with legal department in handling of general liability and product claims

- Manage claims for property damage at manufacturing plant locations directly with the at-fault party or their insurance to obtain payment for repairs

- Manage incoming and outgoing certificates of insurance in accordance with contractual obligations

- Review invoices for policies and claims services. Monitor purchase order creation and payment.

- Develop policies and procedures and provides training and educational materials to enhance risk awareness with management and employees

- Provide technical advice on insurance related matters, loss prevention and other risk management issues

- Coordinate insurance submissions/applications/agreements for London/Singapore/Dubai programs and work closely with insurance brokers

- Coordinate the information-gathering process for the annual insurance renewal submission and the insurance application process.

- Review contracts and agreements (leases, suppliers, customers, and services) to ensure insurance adequacy and indemnity provisions are acceptable.

- Manage one direct report: Claims Analyst

Skills/Qualifications:

- Strong analytical skills

- Well organized, attention to detail and effective time management skills

- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills

- Proficient with Excel, Word and Powerpoint

- Functions with a sense of urgency

- Experience in handling a variety of Marine and/or Inland Marine claims - Cargo, P&I - crew and passenger-, hull, and marine liability claims as well as Contractor's Equipment,

- Superior skills in developing claim strategies to effectuate dispositions.

- Superior communication skills to work effectively with departments and with outside customers.

- Ability to use analytical methods in the claim examining processes to find workable solutions.

- Ability to generate innovative solutions within the claims department.

- Ability to use software to summarize and analyze large amounts of data.

Education and Experience:

- An undergraduate degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance or Economics is preferred

- Minimum 10 year's work experience, with 7 years' experience in risk management or insurance, ideally within the food and beverage industry

Competencies:

- Results Driven:A self-starter and able to demonstrate strong initiative to work independent.

- Prioritization & Work Ethic: Able to cope under pressure, prioritize and multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.

- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills.

- Technical Skills: Advanced level MS Word and Excel is a must (testing to be administered).
