Job Description: Maintenance Head

Purpose of the Job

- Maximizing the effectiveness of Engineering and Technology department, towards realizing the Organizational objectives by increasing the uptime, reliability and Speed of machines, by innovating and automizing, by reducing costs through alternative Ideas, alternative vendors and so on.

Key roles & responsibilities

- Building Maintenance plan at the start of the year along with Production heads mapping order forecasts, production annual lifecycle and customer need assessment.

- Finalizing Maintenance Budget with due approvals at the start of FY to cater effectively to the plant utilization.

- Ensuring Implementation of Line and Lean Maintenance Practices & Cost reduction activities, Innovative ideas for modification for reducing cycle time and enhancing productivity.

- Monitoring Major Project Activities i.e. setting up production lines, installation and commissioning of new equipments in plant premises

- Building balanced maintenance portfolio of planned and corrective maintenance.

- Strongly emphasizing on autonomous and design-out maintenance and RCM analysis

- Ensuring learning environment & training schedules of Maintenance personnel on TPM principles are strictly followed.

- Encouraging focused improvements in the process (KAIZEN)

- Ensuring SHE compliances at the workplace

- Executing internal audits to find gaps and improve processes

- Doing Periodic Performance reviews, feedback and counseling of subordinates

- Setting of objectives, KRA's ,KPI's and targets of subordinates and communicating to them.

- Ensuring right fit are hired at the right time in the right place.

- Developing Individual growth plan for subordinates

- Building successors for oneself.

- Bridging performance gaps and developing potential through right training, learning and developmental plans.

Note: We are still a growing organization with many untapped potentials. Therefore, it is imperative to set the end-to-end process and system in proper order. In doing so, some of the key activities at the start of association may be –

- To check what proportion of maintenance effort is being used on reactive work fixing things verses pro-active work that stops them from breaking in the first place. Review the last two years history of maintenance work and separate into four categories of Proactive, Reactive, Improvement and Assistance work. Compile costs and man-hours per category to determine proportions of cost and effort spent for each.

- Identify the impact of losing each item of equipment on production by conducting a criticality assessment of the plant and the equipment used in each part of the production process. Start by meeting with experienced Operations, production and maintenance people to determine the failure impact on production for each item of equipment.

- Develop each planned maintenance activity to have a scope of works with itemised tasks, materials list and cost estimation, provide materials lead time indication, trade man-hours estimation, and the total work order cost estimate.

Minimum Work Experience – 10-12 yrs in manufacturing concern (printing/ packaging/ newspaper industry professionals to be preferred). Atleast 5 years in Senior Manager or above (DGM/AGM/GM) level.

Educational Qualification- B.E. in Mechanical or E&C or EE with good knowledge on automation.
