Head Engineering JD - Duties and Responsibility

Strategic

- Contribute towards strengthening technical efficiencies of the Projects vertical such that it reflects client and industry requirements and ensures VPPPL being a preferred EPC player in the industry

- Participate in strategy formulation for portfolio expansion within Solar EPC, O&M area by bringing forth implications of solar projects trends, leading industry - compete practices

- Keep abreast of leading practices, technology advancements and new ways of working in project engineering and enable adoption of the same through process innovations and capability building within the team

Financial

- Lead and drive minimization of administrative and variable costs that may be incurred in Bill of Materials and Bill of Quantities provisioning

Process

- Critically review technical proposal prepared by the pre-sales tech support team and approve proposed solution (e.g technical specifications, quality specifications and testing procedures); Propose hiring of external consultants if required based on RFQ requirements and current capability/ resource availability gaps

- Provide support to the Sales team for key account opportunities in terms of site survey, risk assessment and finalization of technical specifications to be proposed; Approve changes to standard technical specification, BOM and BOQ during the course of the agreement as per external-internal factors evaluation

- Ensure strong co-ordination between pre-sales & post sales technical (engineering design) support teams to ensure consistency between proposal, design and execution stages

- Advise the Project sourcing team in developing sourcing database of consultants and service providers for various project stages (DPR preparation, layout, farms, panel preparation, detailed engineering, equipment inspection etc.)

- Support technical evaluation of sub-contractors / equipment vendors against tender terms; identify deviations from specifications and coordinate with the sales team to resolve them

- Lead development, optimization and finalization of Solar Plant layout, specifications for Solar PV plants and provide inputs regarding project parameters and system design to construction and O&M teams

- Providing technical direction and leading the design process with in-house team of Structural & Electrical engineers and external consultants during the entire-cycle of design & construction phases

- Finalize Bill of Quantities and Bill of Materials for all equipments and work aspects based on the DPR and discussions with the Contracts Management team;

- Finalize schedule of drawings in line with the DPR of all the projects in pipeline; Review and approve the drawings and issue the same to the Project Manager for approval from client/execution purpose

- Assess the feasibility of changes requested for by the client and evaluate constraints involve in the same; Ensure smooth coordination between the sub-contractors / equipment vendors projects teams and O&M team by ensuring incorporation of changes into detailed design, post impact analysis;

- Facilitate adoption of modeling techniques such as CAD, As-Built Modeling, 3D modeling etc to enhance accuracy of engineering design outputs

- Oversee version control and systematic documentation of all engineering artifacts (designs, plans, test reports, etc.);

- Ensure adherence to project schedules through timely completion of engineering activities (planning, designing, bid reviews, inspection);

- Ascertain impact of regulations / changes in the same on project design, layout and equipment and recommend design changes/new ways of working to benefit the organization at large

People

- Drive a performance driven culture in the organization by timely monitoring, review of performance parameters and feedback to the team members

- Enable capability development of self and team members by overseeing implementation of appropriate systems and policies

- Oversee succession planning for all critical roles in the team and groom high-potential subordinates

- Actively participate as Function Head / Line Manager in HR initiatives to drive overall employee engagement and motivation

Any other additional responsibility could be assigned to the role holder from time to time as a standalone project or regular work. The same would be suitably represented in the Primary responsibilities and agreed between the incumbent and competent authority

Desired Qualifications - BE (Electrical/Civil/Structural)

- M. Tech (Electrical/Civil/Structural)

- Desired Experience - 20-23 years of industry experience with more than 13-15 years experience in a similar role for EPC / Project based organizations

Knowledge & Skills

- Thorough understanding of the Industry and sector nationally & internationally

- Experience in industry standards - UL, CE, IEC

- Excellent engineering & design skills

- Excellent analytical skills

- In-depth understanding of technical specifications of equipment and implications for civil structures

- In-depth knowledge and experience in optimization of designs
