General Manager - R&D - Polycoats (5-15 yrs)

We have an urgent opening with a Nasik Based ISO certified company involved into manufacture of polycoats,

Following are the details for the same:

Company Profile: Established since 1968, the company is involved into manufacturing, supply and export of Pvc fabrics, pu coated fabrics, foamed plastic sheets/rolls, pvc leather cloth, tpu coated fabrics, flexible water tank, ac ducting fabric, mesh fabric etc.

Job Responsibilities: GM (R & D)

- Mastermind all technical capabilities of EP by thorough understanding of textiles & other substrates, polymers, adhesives & other chemicals, basket of products and their manufacturing processes at both plants, in-depth understanding of 4 main & supporting machine capabilities, limitations and capacity.

Knowledge Profile to be acquired could be summarized as under:

a) Knowledge of Textiles, Polymers, Adhesives along with their suitability for different applications.

b) Knowledge of PVC / PU / TPU / TPO etc., substrates such as polyester, cotton, fibre glass, non-wovens, foam, etc. coated or laminated with different adhesives.

c) Knowledge of adhesives used in the Coating and lamination industries - in powder, solution, web or film form.

d) Knowledge of all possible properties that can be demanded from coated / laminated products, their utility in different applications, how to attain these properties and further translate them into specifications.

e) Working of a calendar coater / spread coater / hot melt and scatter coater, with its capabilities and limitations.

f) Market knowledge of all existing products and their applications / usage.

- Application of knowledge to be directed towards:

a) Development / enhancements in niche products (existing or new) - based on adherence to specifications designed for specific usage requirements.

b) Re-engineering of technologically advanced products such as those used for demanding Defence applications, so as to be competitive to close in on volume tenders.

c) Direct value engineering of highest selling products or potentially high volume products either directly or by forming appropriate teams within R & D.

d) Set specific goals for sourcing of new materials which are limited in availability or could become a constraint in product development through the R & D team and personally handle alternate sourcing of critical items.

e) Reinforce the image of EP among institutional customer, as the market leader in technical textiles, through application-related knowledge sharing with important prospective customers.

- Leadership Role in managing and mentoring R & D and QA teams with respect to setting goals and timelines and ensuring accountability of the team. This would entail cross-utilization of skills of textile and polymer focused team members towards most efficient product outcome in minimum no. of trials.

- Planning and monitoring systems are to be implemented for all projects of R & D.

- Responsibility for Documentation of all knowledge & trials as per a standard system which lends itself to retrievability.

- Close interaction with production teams including workers to ensure translation of product design and development into quality production on the shop floor including scaling-up.
New products upto the first 10,000 metres production is the responsibility of R & D.

- Coordination with marketing, production and maintenance on an on-going basis, including trouble shooting when required.

- Involvement in technical marketing of niche products, representation to key customers like Defence authorities as and when needed.

- Keeping abreast of developments in the technical textile industry globally, by studying technical journals and relevant internet-based information, and applying them to existing and new product developments.

- Management of Trials - Evaluating the need for trials after due study on options, scheduling trials in coordination with customer needs and production planning and setting priorities.

- Evolve a Warranty Policy based on technical considerations, application of the product and commercial factors.

An analytical and scientific approach is essential, balanced with sensitivity to customer needs and ease of production.

Salary Range: Rs 15 - 20L/PA (No bar for the right candidate).
