Position : Direct Tax - Manager

Supervisor's Position : Head Tax

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The role is responsible for providing support to Head of Tax on Direct Tax and advice on compliance services and financial issues related to direct taxations and returns on investments to help the organization develop revenue and expense budget

TYPICAL ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualification:

- MBA Finance, CA

- Experience: 6-9 years post qualification experience

- Experience of working in an India listed entity

Knowledge & skills:

- Strong knowledge of controls and accounts

- Demonstrated ability to navigate in finance environments where laws can be unclear and judicial system not always robust

- Previous experience in effectively and efficiently managing controls and accounts

- Excellent knowledge of Indian Accounting, Tax, labor and industrial law and its application to the USL Group

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Direct Tax Procedures & Frameworks :

- Analyse financial management reports with emphasis on the direct tax expenses incurred

- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end tax reports

- Establish the implementation and maintenance of direct tax control procedures

- Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures, and investment activities, and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions

- Responsible for continuously managing direct tax issues and forecasting any activity or change with respect to the current norms and guidelines

- Prepare for financial audits and execute the audit process in terms of the direct tax measures and expenses incurred

- Provide technical expertise and advise on financial issues related to direct taxations and return on investments to help develop revenue and expense budgets

- Interpret tax statute and effective tax position on tax matters

Direct Tax Implementation :

- Ensure tax is submitted and filed basis rules and regulations

- Implement direct tax standards and controls and improve them over time

- Report and file various reports on tax to government bodies in collaboration with other teams in finance

- Ensure high standards of compliance are maintained

- Responsible for supporting consultant partners in audits on tax

- Advise regions based on emerging tax situations

- Responsible for preparing reports on tax compliance for the company and sharing it with the appropriate stakeholder

Governance and Compliance :

- Support in the creation and implementation of effective governance, compliance and risk management frameworks across USL to drive holistic performance and maintain reputation

- Ensure pro-active input into preventative actions to address key business risks

- Manage issues to mitigate impact and risk by early involvement

- Support in resolution of issues and proactively create an environment where risk is avoided

- Cultivate talent in the team to create an engaged function, committed to personal growth and capability building, aligned and accountable for business performance (Must Dos) and demonstrating the behaviors in pursuit of enabling USL's goals

- Champion the embedding of a compliance culture within USL
