We are looking for a Director - Legal and Business Affairs with our client with a global presence based at Gurgaon.

Education : JD or LLM from an American Bar Association accredited, U.S., law school and excellent academics.

Experience : 10-15 years practicing law, including corporate experience.

CTC : Standard Industry Hike

Working Conditions : 2pm-11 pm, 5 days

Job Description

Director, Business and Legal Affairs will assist the Sr. Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary with the provision of legal services in India. This position will manage and coordinate the legal, and compliance affairs for our business facility in Gurgaon, India, oversee the development and growth of teams providing legal services meeting India and U.S. needs, and serve as the liaison for our U.S. based legal colleagues.

This position will be responsible to ensure that the India operations receive legal advice and support on a wide range of issues including corporate governance, ethics, contracts, employment, and compliance with U.S. Debt collection and India Debt-buying & Asset reconstruction Business.

- The role will work closely with the executive team in India, and with the U.S. based general counsel. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and enforce compliance and legal policies and procedures.

- The position will require travel for extended periods of time to the company's offices in the U.S.

Primary responsibilities include:

- Provides day to day legal support and services for the company's facility located in Gurgaon, India, through individual contributions, and through effective management of external and internal legal resources.

- Ensures compliance with all applicable U.S. laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act.

- Partners with executives to assist with making effective improvements in the business processes, training, policies and procedures that are related to legal issues.

- Works closely with various departments in the India office including the quality assurance, training, operations, India Debt-buying and Asset reconstruction business and human resources teams. Also works closely with executives from the Company's head quarters in the United States including the legal departments and consumer relations.

- Negotiates, drafts and prepares contracts and other legal documents. Authors correspondence, legal memoranda, and reports.

- Assists with the management of outside counsel in India.

- Assists with investigations, providing responses to government agencies and litigation support.

- May assist with corporate governance and the corporate secretary function, including preparation of materials for board of directors and committee meetings in India.

Preferred skills, education, and experience:

- JD or LLM from an American Bar Association accredited, U.S., law school and excellent academics.

- Singificant practice experience with the U.S. legal system and laws required.

- 10-15 years practicing law, including corporate experience.

- Proven track record of strong negotiation, communication, organizational, and people management skills; including the ability to influence and build relationships outside of direct reporting structures

- Ability to quickly establish credibility as an advisor, change agent, and business partner with internal clients.

- Capability to find creative solutions to complex legal issues, moving easily between a hands-on, operations-focused view and a larger strategic outlook.

- Proven ability to manage domestic and international coordination among cross-functional teams.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization while exercising sound judgment, self-confidence, and respect for others.

- Ability to identify and articulate practical legal solutions in a useful and easily-understood manner while partnering with the client to ensure successful implementation.

- Capacity to work both independently and as a team player.
