MISSION CLASP improves the energy and environmental performance of the appliances and equipment we use every day, accelerating our transition to a more sustainable world. CLASPS WORK IN INDIA Since 2001, CLASP has supported the Government of India and India's Bureau of Energy Efficiency, to build, strengthen, and accelerate India's appliance energy efficiency policies. CLASPs support is core to national efforts to conserve energy in India. They work closely with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which has steadily expanded its appliance policy framework to cover a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial energy-using products. The results include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and peak electricity demand, helping to diminish air pollution, reducing consumer energy costs, and expanding access to high quality appliances. From their offices in New Delhi and with collaboration by team members around the world, CLASP technical and analytical support has contributed to efficiency policy development for products ranging from residential air conditioning systems, water heaters and microwaves, to industrial chillers, commercial refrigerators and smart electric meters. The Director will work collaboratively with CLASP team members in the United States, Europe, Africa and elsewhere, along with our wide network of international partners and program stakeholders on the design and implementation of innovative and impactful projects and initiatives. S/he will continue to nurture existing and develop new partnerships with stakeholders in India and other countries in South Asia, including national and state-level government agencies, philanthropic organizations, bilateral and multilateral institutions, trade associations, private sector companies, and civil society organizations. The ideal candidate will have an extraordinary capacity for program development, execution and administration, expertise on Indian market and policy dynamics, world class collaboration and communication skills, a commitment to impacts and results, and a sense of humor. This is a full-time role and based in New Delhi, India. Roles & Responsibilities: - Build and manage programs: Facilitate the continued development of CLASP's programs and institutional presence within India and throughout South Asia. Administer the India office, manage project finances, oversee the work of independent contractors. - Lead and grow a high-performing team: Supervise and grow a dynamic team of professional staff, facilitate on-going training and professional development, and identify future staffing and recruiting needs. - Establish and nurture productive partnerships: Build and enhance relationships with key stakeholders including government decision makers, trade associations, donor organizations, NGOs, and energy efficiency partners. - Lead fundraising efforts, and grow and diversify program resources: Identify existing and new sources of program funding and successfully develop and execute business development initiatives to grow program revenue. - Enhance market development programs for weak-grid appliances: Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategy to facilitate market development for off and weak-grid appropriate appliance technologies and products. - Communicate: Work with CLASP's communications team to develop and share compelling stories of program success, research outcomes, lessons learned, etc. - Track progress: Monitor and evaluate the progress of project activities, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate about progress. - Keep the big picture in mind: Conduct and roll out programs within the larger context of CLASP, partner, and sector efforts. Must Haves: - Minimum 10 years of experience in international program implementation; business and partnership-development experience preferred. - Masters/Bachelor's degree required. Graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, international relations, development, economics, environmental science) preferred. - Persuasive communication skills, both verbal and written; excellent written and spoken English a must. - Entrepreneurial approach to design and execution of long-term initiatives, and a proactive, nimble, and strategic approach to problem-solving. - Successful experience working with or for Government of India agencies and ministries in support of energy policy design and implementation highly desirable. - Demonstrated experience in growing and developing team members. - Ability to work from the big picture to the small details. - Ability to maintain composure, flexibility, and a sense of humour under tight deadlines and while collaborating across cultures and time zones. - Experience in product efficiency policy programs or projects highly desirable.
