Director of Impact Health Research and Evaluation

Overview of Role

The Director of Impact will:

- Lead efforts to rapidly evaluate and increase the impact - making sure that we are optimizing our life- saving programs while remaining cost-effective.

- Set strategy and build a rigorous evidence base for the effectiveness of the family health skills training programs.

- Serve on the leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with The Chief Design Officer, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Medical Officer.

- Lead the Impact Team that is comprised of the Implementation Research Manager, Implementation Research Fellow, an Outcomes Surveillance Manager and 20+ field investigators.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee impact evaluation: Decide what questions to investigate and personally come up with answers or oversee the delegation of this research to others

- Vision evaluations that can not only deliver decision-focused insights in implementation-based timelines but also advance the global learning agenda

- Main point of contact for shaping external evaluations aligned with impact metrics and methods of data collection

- Oversee cost-effectiveness analysis of program and holding the organization accountable to important metrics like cost per life saved

- Deploy lean M&E systems: Oversee deployment of nationwide monitoring system assessing implementation quality across all partner health systems.

- Research best systems and practices for improving current monitoring system

- Ensure that overall monitoring strategy is in line with organizational mission & vision

- Drive experimentation in data collection through new methodologies and tools

- Craft research strategy: Craft a research strategy that fits into the overall strategy for the organization and build a rigorous evidence base for the effectiveness of family training programs.

- Impact Communication: Help translate findings into practical communications products like presentations, talks, research papers and white papers for variety of audiences within our team (i.e. leadership, board members to general team) and outside of us (i.e. partner organizations), general public.

- Advise & collaborate on product and service testing: Team with the product design and operations teams to advise design and evaluate iterations of the program and service.

- Embed creative methods for impact measurement into the solutions they- re delivering to our partners at the prototype, pilot, and implementation stage

- Craft measurement frameworks that can be used for impact evaluations of our programs and facilitate product development.

- Help translate findings into practical communications products like presentations, talks, research papers and white papers for variety of audiences within us(i.e. leadership, board members to the general team) and outside of us (i.e. partner organizations)

Who is an ideal candidate for this role?

The Director of Impact has deep knowledge and experience in impact measurement and evaluation, specific to the health sector or social sector in development settings, and possesses experience in utilizing a broad range of both quantitative and qualitative tools and methods for analysis.

You can utilize - right-fit- methods for a broad range of quantitative and qualitative approaches. You can think both fast and slow, having both the ability to rapidly evaluate A/B testing of the product and the ability to set us up for large scale impact evaluation.

- You are comfortable designing both decision-focused and knowledge-focused evaluations and can decide which evaluations are appropriate at what time.

- You have the experience and ability to lead our small army of field staff and the impact team to achieve our learning and research agenda.

- You have a zeal for design thinking and utilize multiple practices and mindsets of human-centered design, such as prototyping solutions and embracing ambiguity.

- You have the ability to communicate a rigorous, yet compelling story about impact whether in research journals or to international funding organizations.

- You have a dedication to social justice and health equity.

- You work well in a casual, but highly effective team.

Preferred Experience :

- 5+ years professional experience (including graduate work)

- Graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related public health quantitative methods field preferred

- Demonstrated commitment to advancing global public health

- Monitoring and impact evaluation experience in the global health, nonprofit or business sector

- Experience in quantitative & statistical analysis and research methods

- Science communication experience (e.g. science blogging, scientific publications, public speaking)

- Demonstrated ability to lead a team in pursuit of a global social mission.
