Director - Communications & Marketing - Education (6-11 yrs)

Position Summary :

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Marketing and Communications will help set and guide the strategy for all communications, external relations, events and media efforts that consistently articulate Teach For India's mission and vision.

This position will be responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership. The Director of Marketing and Communications will be an ambassador for Teach For India, building and maintaining relationships with the media, as well as other key constituencies, including staff and partners.

The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead Teach For India's expanding Marketing and Communications team and establish and lead the strategy and implementation of its brand, communications, public and media relations and strategic partnerships. The Director will work primarily with external stakeholders, across teams and with outside vendors as communications partners on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Team Overview :

The Marketing and Communications team at Teach For India works with external stakeholders for PR and Events and partners with internal teams to create and execute the overall marketing, brand and communication strategies for the organization. This includes the development of targeted outreach strategies, design, events and materials for a diverse, nationwide audience of current and prospective donors, potential applicants to the Fellowship and staff, new Fellows and staff, current staff and Fellows, the alumni body, the education community and extended networks at large.

Responsibilities :

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to :

1. Conceptualizing and leading the marketing, advertising, PR and media strategy and initiatives for Teach For India

2. Defining the overall brand identity, brand strategy and core messages of Teach For India

3. Developing and executing strategies to build brand awareness; seek out and leverage opportunities to feature Teach For India nationwide as well as globally through the Teach For All network

4. Building communications vehicles to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the impact of communications activities

5. Developing an annual communications and marketing plan that engages diverse audience segments and leads to measurable action

6. Initiating and managing strategic external relationships in support the goals of Teach For India, including (as relevant) with multilateral organizations, NGOs, events, media outlets and other relevant global bodies

7. Conceiving of special events, campaigns and initiatives to achieve organizational goals

8. Serving as the primary liaison with reporters; manage incoming media inquiries; pitch stories; write and manage review of communications materials (op-eds, press releases, policy statements, talking points, and speeches); provide rapid and strategic response to queries to increase visibility and brand stature of Teach For India

9. Managing crisis communication and reputation management of the organization

10. Overseeing the development and analytics of www.teachforindia.org

Additional Responsibilities :

1. Initiating and conceptualizing online and in-person Communications training modules, ambassador and spokesperson trainings, supporting communications and organizational culture-building through the execution of Summer Institute, and supporting Selection centres in the city for selection of highest quality of candidates for the Fellowship.

Knowledge and Technical Skills :

1. Strong competency in media relations

2. Creative aptitude and familiarity with interactive design, website management/maintenance and social media marketing platforms

1. Exceptional written, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interface with multiple audiences, internal teams and stakeholders while presenting complex ideas clearly and in an engaging manner; ability to execute a complex plan in an entrepreneurial environment

3. Strong time management skills and remain flexible in order to accommodate multiple projects simultaneously, with tight deadlines

Education and Experience :

1. 5+ years of relevant work experience in marketing and communications/PR. We are open to less experience for the right person, especially someone who is passionate and proven in media relations with strong results, agency experience is an advantage

2. Proven track record in developing and leading comprehensive communications, media relations, marketing and online strategies, including experience managing social media outreach

3. An advanced degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field preferred, MBA or Management degree with relevant experience in a creative industry will be considered

4. Prior non-profit or education-related experience preferred

5. Significant management experience preferred
