Job Title: ADVISOR, LIVESTOCK MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Reporting to: SENIOR DIRECTOR, GLOBAL AGRICULTURE METHANE

Location: PREFERABLY IN NEW DELHI. OPEN TO ALL LOCATIONS IN INDIA

Program Overview:

- The People & Nature program's fundamental purpose is centered on the EDF vision that people and nature can thrive together in a climate impacted world and that working lands and natural ecosystems can be an important part of the climate solution. Healthy land, freshwater and ocean ecosystems are more resilient to climate change, are part of the climate solution, and provide healthy abundant food, improved livelihoods and cultural well-being for all communities. Further, we must work to ensure all people benefit more equitably as we implement climate solutions.


- Methane is expected to cause nearly half of the projected temperature rise due to new greenhouse gas emissions over the next two decades. Agriculture is the largest source of human-caused methane emissions globally (approximately 40%), and livestock alone accounts for approximately one-third of those emissions. EDF's Climate-Smart Agriculture initiative aims to put farmers at the center of climate adaptation and mitigation and embed principles of a just rural transition by focusing on productivity and technological solutions that work for farmers.

EDF is looking to hire an Advisor, Livestock Management Director who will be a key leader within the Climate-Smart Agriculture team and People and; Nature program. The incumbent will work with a cross-cutting team of EDF scientists, policy, and technical experts, both domestic and international, to develop a strategy to address livestock methane in India, and will work closely with leading partners on the ground to help scale methane mitigation strategies in India while securing and improving livelihoods, food and nutrition security.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Collaboratively develop and execute a focused India livestock agricultural methane mitigation strategy, with deep engagement from local partners and stakeholders across the organization

- Co-develop annual workplans collaborating with the AVP, Senior Director, Global Agriculture Methane, Climate Smart Agriculture and Chief Advisor, India, ensuring work plans are interrelated, build upon each other, and lead with science, economics, partnerships (cooperatives and corporates), and smart policy

- Lead and manage a work plan across a matrixed organizational structure in order to maximize impact

- Build and implement deep and meaningful engagement with government, cooperatives, state milk federation, livestock sector, corporate, or other leaders and stakeholders

- In collaboration with local partners, champion, develop, and deploy market-based approaches to manure management - e.g., A National Biogas Program under the Gold Standard

- Effectively communicate progress, challenges, and opportunities to stakeholders, EDF Climate-Smart Agriculture team, and other internal and external audiences

- Represent EDF in high-level panels, conferences, and direct engagements

- Oversee consultants and coordinate with staff and partners to ensure aligned execution of work to achieve results and work closely with financial operations lead on budget matters

- Participate in advancing EDF diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF's values

The need for flexibility is required and the consultant is expected to carry out any other related duties that are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

Must Haves:

- Bachelor's degree and at least twelve (12) years of related experience, or a master's degree and at least ten (10) years of related experience

- Demonstrated experience creating and executing strategies, including managing a matrixed team of experts to deliver results

- Expert-level knowledge of livestock management, dairy industry, agriculture, greenhouse gas mitigation, national policy, and/or other relevant fields

- Proven results from advocacy in the environmental and agricultural sectors

- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences

- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills

- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new concepts to strategic planning and recommendations

- Strong communication skills donor reporting, project tracking, and budget execution

- Self-starter, detail oriented, well-organized, and able to plan and execute projects from conception to completion

- Demonstrated capacity to bring constituents together toward a common goal, build strategic relationships, and successfully advocate for environmental issues

- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds

- Willingness and ability to engage in travel, including international travel

- Fluency in English and Hindi; fluency in one other language in widespread use in India a plus Contract will be awarded based on the above qualifications and ensuring equal treatment and non-discrimination
