Overview

The purpose of the Non-Financial Risk Management (NFRM) function is to ensure that the banks Non-Financial Risk exposure is adequately managed in-line with the group wide risk appetite and NFRM framework.


To achieve this the NFRM function requires:

- Risk Managers with the experience, seniority and tools to assess complex risks and intervene where they lie outside the bank's risk appetite.

- A comprehensive, integrated, simple and easy to use NFR Framework with supporting technology that assists risk identification, assessment and remediation.

- Strong understanding of the businesses combined with regular engagement which would allow NFRM to provide support, review and challenge in line with the 3 Lines of Defence Model.

- Close coordination with all Second Line Risk Type Controllers to facilitate the production of a holistic view of NFR.

- Proper consideration of emerging risks, rather than just current issues.

- Effective governance combined with supporting MI that facilitates decision-making.

NFRM is a matrix organization with business / region and functional specialist axes.

The role a Risk Specialist has within NFRM is to support the Risk Managers in their management of NFR according to the 3 Lines of Defense model and the NFR mandate. Specifically, they support global and regional NFRM risk assessment activity as required.

Role description (Associate) :

An Associate in the NFRM COO team will be expected to actively support in the completion of independent oversight, monitoring and assessment activities on a risk-basis.

This will involve performing the following NFRM activities for COO :

- Supporting global and regional NFRM risk assessment activity by participating in Deep Dives, Thematic Assessments, Finding Closure Verification, Control Effectiveness Testing and Ad Hoc Requests

- Enhance Risk Culture and ORM visibility through meaningful stakeholder engagements and trainings

- Provide guidance to 1st Line stakeholders on NFRM tools, systems and policies

- Supporting Operational Risk Event management including assisting with Lessons Learnt and read across

- Supporting the preparation and maintenance of the NFRM coverage book of work

- Collaborating with PMG team to support the creation of reports and metrics for NFRM coverage

Experience :

The ideal candidate will have:

- 2-3 years experience in a similar role

- A good understanding of Non-Financial Risk Management principles and practices.

- Understanding of the transactions and financials products offered by a Tier 1 investment bank as well as the supporting infrastructure and controls.

- A Postgraduate degree in finance or equivalent or similar experience.

- Excellent communication skills, fluent in English.

- Strong oral and written skills - should be able to distil topics into understandable summaries with clear conclusions and explanations of rationale.

- Presentation skills - candidates should be confident in presenting the outcomes of their work.

- Time management - the successful candidate will often need to deal with multiple priorities and should therefore be highly organised and be able to multi-task.

- Adaptable - candidates will play a pivotal role in a period of significant change for this function and therefore past experience with change projects is desirable.

- Assertive - must be proactive in forming relationships with key stakeholders in the business and within NFR.

- Team player - willing to help out other team members where required and be a constructive conscientious corporate citizen.

- Matrix environment - ability to work in virtual global teams in a matrix organisation with minimal supervision
