ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND :

People For Action (PFA) is an Indian NGO. It leads inspired action to improve learning outcomes for students in government schools in India and has set the audacious goal of addressing education and equity issues for 25% children in secondary schools in India, by 2023.

PFA's Transform Schools programme is presently operational in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal. It uses powerful models and high-quality resources to transform Teaching, Learning, School Management, Enrolment and Gender Parity. These are implemented in partnership with State Governments and NGOs.

Transform Schools, PFA, with its established transform learning model, aims to make its programmes wider and deeper, to impact learning outcomes for 6.6 million children across seven States by 2021.

In order to achieve these goals, PFA is seeking to hire a Business Development professional to lead its Business Development and Fundraising functions and raise upwards of INR 10 crores per annum to fuel PFA's expansion to new geographies.

JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director- Business Development (DD-BD) shall be responsible for researching, identifying and reaching out to new fundraising and partnership opportunities, including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, and partnerships, as well as new ways of reaching out to existing partners, to generate revenue in alignment with Transform Schools- Business Development Strategy for 2020- 2023.

- The main purpose of the position shall be to secure partnerships and funding to realise the organisation's mission. The post-holder shall be accountable for actively building and maintaining partnerships, aligned with PFA's vision and mission, whilst ensuring a diverse and growing portfolio of funding.

- The role shall involve careful strategic planning and positioning in appropriate markets, apart from enhancing the operations of the organisation, and its positioning and reputation, to achieve planned targets.

- The DD-BD shall be supported by a team of two managers and shall lead engagement and results, across all areas of the fundraising domain.

Key Roles and Responsibilities :

A. Fund Raising :

(1) Build a fundraising engine by setting up a robust and systematic mechanism in alignment with the organisation's Business Development plans to establish PFA as a sustainable organisation with a diverse donor base;

(2) Systematically track, gather intelligence and forecast potential funding opportunities at regular intervals. Also analyse information from donor discovery platforms, network mapping, industry intelligence and trends and State level CSR connects, to define a focused approach for each donor;

(3) Generate leads, seek out the appropriate contacts by reaching out to potential funders/ donors across CSR networks and Institutions, understand the needs of funders/ donors and respond effectively with appropriate proposals to address the same;

(4) On-board high-profile vocal supporters and HNIs/ UHNIs, to financially and intellectually endorse PFA, by deepening relations and generating leads from existing donors;

(5) Secure legacy giving and endowment funds, as a source of unrestricted funding to ensure organisational sustainability. Also research into practice grants, to enable the development of new and improved programmatic solutions.

B. Partner Communication :

(1) Develop a plan of communication for donor reporting, encompassing announcements, invitations and exchange of greetings on special occasions;

(2) Communicate, negotiate and present programme outcomes, credibly and effectively, to influence and develop relationships with funders/ donors;

(3) Ensure that donor compliances are met with and that they receive regular updates on progress and milestones achieved.

C. Relationship and Brand Building :

(1) Create brand recall by establishing trust amongst supporters, donors and partners, to ensure long-term partnerships, culminating in higher revenue generation;

(2) Conceptualise and organise Annual Fundraising Campaigns and Galas, as well as other events and meets;

(3) Conduct social media campaigns, sharing information and building awareness about the organisation's achievements, to a wider audience, advocating for the cause of improved learning outcomes in elementary and secondary schools;

(4) Partner with a PR agency to facilitate press coverage of PFA's work in targeted dailies, magazines, radio and social media channels, to expand outreach and audiences for the organisation and build the foundation for an enlarged donor landscape.

D. Other Activities :

(1) Suggest periodic revisions to the Business Development and Engagement strategy, based on lessons learned, field feedback and observations;

(2) Produce monthly, up-to-date fundraising reports, for the Executive Director.

Qualifications :

- Applicants must have a Masters- Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or relevant field.

Experience :

- Minimum seven years of relevant experience in leading business development initiatives, showcasing a track record of successful fundraising outcomes, during this period

Skills and Competencies :

(1) Belief in the power of quality education to impact social and economic outcomes for children;

(2) Ability to close the best deals based on thorough market inputs/ comparisons;

(3) Data-oriented with good experience in team/ stakeholder management;

(4) Excellent proposal writing, research and communication skills;

(5) Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate, present, and influence credibly and effectively, at all organization levels;

(6) Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, apart from online management tools like Flux, Pipedrive, Slack, etc.;

(7) Excellent collaboration, management and problem-solving skills;

(8) Ability to prioritize a diverse and demanding workload, and meet deadlines consistently;

(9) Strong interpersonal, networking, communication and IT skills, including high levels of competency in written and verbal English;

(10) Alignment with Transform Schools- mission and priorities;

(11) Effective communication skills in Hindi;

(12) A sense of humour and patience.

COMPENSATION OFFERED :

Gross compensation budgeted for the position, including performance incentives, is Rs. 20 lacs per annum. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.

LOCATION: South Delhi, with frequent travel in India.
